Cadets from Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC programs assembled on the firing lines of the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) air ranges in the north, south and west to compete in the 2016 JROTC Regional Service Championships Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 18-20. Winners of the Regionals, determined from combined scores of all three locations, will advance to the National Championship in March.

When most people think of rifle competitions in Northwest Ohio, they think of the National Matches at Camp Perry. For over 100 years, flocks of marksmen have flooded the ranges of the facility during the summer months to participate in the World Series of Shooting. But what many don't know is once the ranges of Camp Perry become dismal and bare in the cold winter, rifle competitions are heating up right down the road - and have been for almost as long as the existence of the National Matches.

Paige Hatch, Brandon Helms, Dillon Betler, and Hunter Austin were selected to participate in the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) National Championship in Camp Perry, Ohio. Port Elgin Air Cadet hits the bullseye- HURON COUNTY - Port Elgin Air Cadet Rahul Pandya hit the target at Zone nine's annual Championship Marksmanship Series at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wingham Feb. 20. Pandya took first place in the open junior (under 15) category for his squadron, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 340 Griffin Squadron of Port Elgin, and advanced to the upcoming regional championship in April (date to be determined). Pandya doubled his medal count as he and teammates Noah Aasman, Colin Little-Hokea, Noah Walmann, and Adrian Schwandt took third place overall. Read the complete article.
Covington High NJROTC engage in competitions, balls and more - Covington High School offers a vast array of extracurricular programs for the student body, and one of those important programs would be the Navel Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program.The ROTC program has been instilled in at Covington High for over 20 years. Its teacher sponsors are Lieutenant Commander Douglas Johnson and Senior Chief Dale Robeson. JROTC Warhawk Battalion brings home the bronze in AMU Nationals - The award-winning Daleville High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp Rifle Team competed in the Army Marksmanship Unit 2016 National Championships in Fort Benning, Ga Jan. 28-31. The cadets brought home the Bronze Medal after an intense shooting competition with eight other teams from six states. The Warhawks were the only team from Alabama. Read the complete article.

KINGWOOD - Every time junior Dillon Betler lined up his air rifle with the target, he had his sights set on the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) National Championship.
Around his teammates, he could see the potential, the desire to head into the biggest competition at the high school level, and has never lost his confidence in them.
NJROTC excels in marksmanship, cybernetics and drill - The 2015-16 school year keeps bringing success to the cadets of Ramona High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. Of note, our Varsity Marksmanship team, coached by Ray Silva and captained by Cadet Nicole Lewis, has had many highlights this year. The 2016 CMP Junior Rifle Camps and Clinics are now open for registration. The campers are trained by qualified student athletes from the top NCAA rifle teams in the country - the majority of whom had participated in the camps themselves as juniors. These camp counselors will lead the juniors in discussions and drills during the camp in small groups where they are able to give each participant personal attention. During the course of the camp, juniors will learn tips for both the physical and mental aspects of competition shooting. Topics to be discussed include proper positioning, goal setting, anxiety control and how to optimize equipment performance. Campers will also take a look into competition and finals performance, learn leadership roles and building self-confidence on the firing line - along with an assortment of skills that can be carried from the range into every day life. CMP Seeking Qualified Individuals to fill Counselor Positions for our Junior Rifle Camps. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is seeking qualified individuals to fill counselor positions for its Junior Rifle Camps program. This premier program has a long established history of providing the highest quality three-position and international air rifle instruction in the country for high school athletes. Camp Counselor positions are open to college students who have completed at least one year of school, and are members of an NCAA or college club rifle team. Applicants must be available to work and travel from 1 June through 5 August 2016 (accommodations will be made for those competing in the Olympic Trails, or other International Competitions). These are highly competitive positions. Selections will be based on academic performance, shooting experience, coaching experience, youth leadership experience, and references. National Match Camp Perry Housing. Camp Perry is an Ohio National Guard post that offers huts (4-person), cottage housing, barracks and RV Spaces for competitors during the National Matches. All Camp Perry housing is managed by the Adjutant General's Department, State of Ohio, not the CMP or NRA. There is a high demand for housing during National Trophy Matches so it is essential to make housing arrangements early if you wish to stay on base at Camp Perry. The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers. The program consists of Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and Para-Air Rifle/Air Pistol events.
CMP Club Annual Reports. CMP Affiliated Clubs, State Associations and MOUs are encouraged to visit http://thecmp.org/clubs/club-annual-reports/ to complete an annual Club Renewal and Activity Report to renew their affiliation with the CMP. The Club Activity Report requests current data about CMP Affiliated Clubs and information about the club's activities during the calendar year 2015. Information reported is used to determine the organization's eligibility for CMP programs as well as to evaluate and develop CMP programs. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Wednesday Mornings - Beginners Handgun Safety Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-0049 for information and/or to register for classes.
March 6- Steel Challenge- The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entree level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level. March 26 - IDPA - This is a practical shooting event designed around handguns and gear commonly used for concealed carry and self-defense purposes. We welcome everyone to come out and participate. Greg will cover basic shotgun fundamentals, proper mounting, sighting procedures and target tracking. Check in begins at 8:30 am at the Park Club House. Required liability waiver, parent consent, and safety video. Instruction from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (lunch will be provided during a break). Cost: $100.00 (includes the cost of lunch).
