Registration Still Open for the Talladega 600 

There's still time to register for the new Talladega 600 competitive shooting event - held Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, through Sunday, Dec. 13, at CMP's exclusive Talladega Marksmanship Park. Rifle, pistol and shotgun events will all be fired throughout the inaugural event.
Competitions will include popular CMP Games Matches, such as the Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Matches, as well as the Vintage Sniper, Carbine and Rimfire Matches, and versions of prestigious National Trophy Matches.

Junior Outshoots Country's Top Marksmen at 2015 Dixie Double

ANNISTON, AL - Rhiann Travis, 16, of Springtown, TX, was the High Junior and Overall Open Rifle winner during the seventh annual Dixie Double - held Nov. 20-22 at the CMP South Competition Center. With her win, Travis outdid her performance at last year's event, where she finished second overall. Sarah Beard, 24, of Danville, IN, earned second place in the Open Rifle event, while Daniel Lowe, 23, of Olympia, WA, landed in third.

2015-2016 CMP National Postal, State, Regional and National Championships. The CMP sponsors Three Position Air Rifle Championships that include a postal, State Championships, Regional Championships and a National Championship. These matches are designed to give all junior shooters around the country an opportunity to compete in a national level match, as well as to create shoulder-to-shoulder matches for juniors to attend. A NRA/CMP/USAS Level 1 Air Rifle Coach School at SAFE of Florida, Inc., Winter Park, FL, will be held January 30-31, 2016. You MUST attend both days. This course is designed to give beginning/intermediate coaches the knowledge and confidence to coach beginning/intermediate athletes. The course provides both general and specific guidance for equipment, developing shooting positions and introduces ideas you may want to use in your competition program. Please bring pen/pencil/note paper, a 2.5 inch 3-ring binder.  Also, if you can, bring one complete set of the equipment (air rifle, sling, spotting scope/stand, mat, etc.) you will be using in your program. 2016 CMP Aces Postal Poker Chip Design Contest

CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Several events have been planned at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:
 
Wednesday Mornings - Beginners Handgun Safety Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-0049 for information and/or to register for classes. 

Dec 5th - IDPA - This is a practical shooting event designed around handguns and gear commonly used for concealed carry and self-defense purposes. We welcome everyone to come out and participate. If you have questions about anything either message shall@thecmp.org or email Match Director Kyle Adomavicious at Kyle.adomavicius@gmail.com. Registration 8:00-8:30 CST. If this is your first time at CMP or not preregistered, you should consider making it closer to 8:00 CST. Shooters meeting at Range 5 at 9:00 CST.

Dec 6th - Steel Challenge - The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entree level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level. Dec 7-13th - Talladega 600 - The Talladega 600 is set to begin Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, and concludes Sunday, Dec. 13, at CMP's new Talladega Marksmanship Park. The event schedule has been designed to appeal to rifle, pistol and shotgun enthusiasts alike in order to provide an even wider variety of marksmanship opportunities to competitors from around the country. Dec 19th - Utah Concealed Carry Firearms Class - This class meets the training requirements necessary to apply for the Utah CFP License and is taught by a Utah Certified Instructor. The course content was developed by AFTS and has been reviewed and approved by the Utah Department of Public Safety/BCI for meeting the Utah BCI Training requirements and standards. Rifle inks four signees for 2016-17 season - By Eric Matthews, Morehead State Athletic Media Relations - MOREHEAD, Ky. - Sarah Fink, Jesse Moyer, Alexa Potts, and Karly Potts have signed National Letters of Intent with the Morehead State rifle program.  All four student-athletes will be freshmen during the 2016-17 school year. "I am proud to announce these four new members of Eagle Rifle," said Head Coach Alan Joseph. "It is difficult to write separate statements about each because they are all competent, experienced and leaders on their high school rifle teams, in school and their communities. Middle schoolers fired up about marksmanship program - By Caitlin Skvorc, Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman - PALMER - Whether for hunting, self-defense, or just because it's fun, more and more middle school students want to use and learn about guns. Because of this, teachers Steve and Brenda Montgomery began the Marksmanship Club at Palmer Junior Middle School in the fall of 2012. As certified NRA instructors and volunteers at the Matanuska Valley Sportsmen's Range in Palmer, the couple had the qualifications and resources to bring their knowledge to students at the school. Staying Sharp on the Line - By Karson Sorby - The Spectrum, North Dakota State University - Imagine standing at the line with your gun aimed at the target while all of your competition stands behind you. Your entire team and coaches watch as you complete your match. No pressure. The thrill of a sporting event like this is what drives members of the North Dakota State Marksmanship Club, a team that is made up of competitive rifle and pistol shooters. But back in 1921, a 63-year-old man attended the Camp Perry National Championships and put on a nearly unheard-of performance. He used a standard-issue M1903 Springfield rifle and stunned spectators and participants alike. His name was George Farr, but his friends called him Pop. Read the complete article.

The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match.
