Rifle Matches Return to Ben Avery for 2015 Western CMP Games
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The 12th Annual Western Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches will return to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility Oct. 9-18, 2015, to a growing crowd of enthusiastic competitors. New and experienced marksmen alike are welcome to participate in these recreation-oriented, national-level competitions.

CMP Monthly Match League Returns for 2015 Session


CAMP PERRY, Ohio; ANNISTON, Ala. - The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will be holding the final three Monthly Matches during Fall 2015. There, shooters will have the chance to be ranked among Monthly Match participants from across the country for a chance at monetary rewards and bragging rights during the new Monthly Match League.
The six Monthly Matches are held at our South Marksmanship Center in Anniston, AL, as well as our newly renovated Gary Anderson CMP Marksmanship Center in Camp Perry, OH. Staple events fired include a Junior 3x20, Junior 3x10, Novice Prone, 60 Shot Air Rifle Standing and 60 Shot Air Pistol.

CMP CLUB'S CORNER - Sydney Katz - A Shooting Star
Cos Cob Rifle and Revolver Club arrived at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's Chase Hall Range complex to shoot the Connecticut State Junior Olympic Shooting Championships in early January of 2014. Coaches Jude Collins and Rocco Cicci walked in with 15 competitors and a host of parents into the unfamiliar world of electronic targets and stringent international shooting rules.
 
Local Rifleman Sets New Record, Claims Win at 2015 National Rimfire Sporter Match



CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Talented marksman, Ted James, 36, of Woodville, Ohio, was the overall winner of the Tactical Class during the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) Rimfire Sporter Match - recently held during the 2015 National Matches at Camp Perry. James bested a field of 65 competitors in the class that helped make up a group of over 300 participants overall.

That's the reality for Trumbull resident Kris Friend, who won the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) National Trophy competition at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio, where he beat out the top 1,000 shooters in the President's Rifle Match on July 22. Friend, who took home the coveted President's Trophy in 2007, is one of five riflemen to capture the event's top prize multiple times despite limited opportunities to hone his skill set. New York Soldiers supports Ohio Guard and shooting's 'National Matches' - By Sgt Harley Jelis, DVIDS - CAMP PERRY, Ohio -- New York Army National Guard Spc. Michael Valasquez doesn't understand the long-held military tradition to "never volunteer for anything." Valesquez turned that phrase on its head when he became the first out-of-state volunteer to support the Ohio National Guard's mission at the annual National Rifle & Pistol Championships here this summer. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 500-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Several events have been planned at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:


Aug 26thBeginners Handgun Safety Course - Creedmoor Sports in conjunction with the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park are offering a beginners handgun safety and handling class designed to provide the beginner or novice with a basic understanding of handgun safety, operation, loading and firing. The class is four hours in duration consisting of two hours of classroom instruction and two hours of range time. Class begins at 9 am in the Clubhouse. The student will learn how to handle the handgun in a safe manner, how to carry it, how to load and unload it, and how to fire the handgun in a controlled environment. Each student will fire fifty rounds at a target 15 feet away. Call 256-474-0049 for information and/or to register for classes.
 
 
Aug 29th - Top's High Power Clinic. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park Range Master, Donnie "Top" Heuman, will be hosting a High Power Clinic. Instruction will begin at 8:00 am with approximately 1 hour of classroom instruction. From 9:00 am to 5:00 pm the clinic will be firing on the 200-300-600 yd range electronic KTS targets working on various competition techniques including rapid fire drills and a practice 800 aggregate match with sighters. Aug 30th - Top's 800 Agg  - The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park invites you to participate in its 800 Aggregate Match on Sunday, 30 August 2015.  This match is open to the public; new or experience shooters are welcome. This match offers a Service Rifle Full Course (800 aggregate) high power match.

 
Sept 5th - M1 Carbine Match. The Civilian Marksmanship Program's Talladega Marksmanship Park is hosting a M1 Carbine match September 5th, 2015. All competitors in the Carbine Rifle match use a M1 Carbine and fire 40 shots at a distance of 100 yards. The course of fire is 15 shots slow-fire prone (first 5 shots are sighters); 10 shots rapid-fire prone; 10 shots rapid-fire sitting; 10 shots slow fire standing. Registration is open to the public. Sept 13th - Steel Challenge - The inaugural Steel Challenge match at the CMP in Talladega is just around the corner. The Steel Challenge "SCSA" is an entry level into Shooting competition as well as the "Drag Racing" of all of the shooting sports. The match consist of 5 stages where steel plates are arranged by different sizes and distances. The objective is to shoot 5 plates as fast as you can while being timed with a timer. Each stage consist of 5 strings of the same course and the slowest of your 5 tries will be discarded and will not factor into your score. There are several classes from kids to super seniors and everything in between. There is a class for everyone regardless of your skill level.


Sept 19th - USPSA Pistol Match - The Talladega Practical Shooters will host a USPSA Pistol Match. Registration begins at 8:00am at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park Club House. A range safety briefing will be given at 8:30 am. and firing will begin at 9:00 am. For more information call 256-474-4408 Ext 460.


Sept 25-26th - CMP-GCA Clinic Talladega.
The GCA Convention Match will take place at the Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama on September 25-26, 2015.  During the convention the CMP will host a Vintage Sniper match on September 25 and a John C Garand match on September 26. The matches are limited to GCA convention members only.
     
 
Oct 17th - Alabama State High Power Championship. This is a non-EIC 800 aggregate match. 20 shots slow fire prone, 200 yards, 20 shots rapid fire sitting, 200 yards, 20 shots rapid fire prone 300 yards, 20 shots slow fire prone 600 yards. This match is open to the public. Firing will begin at 9:00 am, competitors must arrive no later than 8:30 to the Talladega Marksmanship Park Club House for orientation. This is a NRA registered tournament. The NRA classification system will be used and appropriate NRA points will be given. Appropriate championship awards will be given to Alabama residents only.



2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites including the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center (Port Clinton, Ohio) and the CMP Competition Center-South (Anniston, Alabama). This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association (MRPA) and the Blue Water Sportsman's Association (BWSA) are teaming up to present a BACK to BACK EIC MATCH WEEKEND at the Blue Water Sportsman's Association Range, Kimball Twp. Michigan (near Port Huron). Saturday, August 29th, 2015 the BWSA will hold a CMP Sanctioned EIC match and on Sunday, August 30th, 2015 MRPA will hold a CMP Sanctioned EIC match. Match Cost is $35.00 each but shoot both matches and pay only $60.00! Registration begins at 0730 each day in the club house, Pits seal at 0845, first shots 0900. The Friends of Camp Perry Fall Pistol Shoot is ON!! Shoot is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, 2015, Labor Day Weekend. This is the FOCP popup shoot, not the ORPA shoot and will be pistol only!. Registration starts at 0700, shooting to commence at 0900 and will run until there are no more shooters or 1600 (4PM) whichever comes first. The shoot will be held at the Combat Pistol Range at Camp Perry, in Port Clinton, OH. As usual, shooters will get 40 target exposures using ammunition no larger than .45ACP and no smaller than .22LR.
