Team of Rutherford, Armstrong Win Vintage Sniper for Third Time at 2015 National Games Matches
 

 

CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Winning the Vintage Sniper Team Match at the 2015 National Matches was team "Double D" - consisting of Douglas Armstrong, 55, of Lexington, NC, and Glendale "Don" Rutherford, 63, of Tallapoosa, GA. The duo fired an aggregate score of 393-19x. Armstrong finished first overall as an individual in a group of 519 competitors.

Betzold, Stout Set New Carbine Records During 2015 National Games Matches


 

CAMP PERRY, Ohio - Victor Betzold, 60, of Bel Air, MD, left the 2015 National Matches with more than just memories - he also left with a trunk full of plaques and donated rifle supplies after placing or firing a high score in virtually every CMP Games Match during rifle week. Betzold is no stranger to shooting - beginning in junior high and firing well into college, then taking his love for guns into the Army. After the years went on and work and family became higher priorities, he fell away from the sport he loved. But now that he's retired, he's had time to practice again - practice that has certainly paid off.

Clinics Stay Popular at 2015 National Rifle Matches


 

CAMP PERRY, Ohio - A total of 443 entered this year's Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) - held in Camp Perry's historic Hough Theater and Viale Range during the 2015 National Trophy Rifle Matches. The clinic is designed for new and experienced shooters alike. Beginners learn the basics of marksmanship and competition shooting, while the more advanced will have the chance to learn more specific instruction on how to improve their skills.

First Three .22 Rimfire Pistol Distinguished Badges Awarded


 

In early 2015, the CMP introduced the new .22 Rimfire Pistol Distinguished Badge and EIC match program to encourage even more talented shooters to earn another, or even their very first, prestigious Distinguished Badge. The new EIC program is designed to uniquely challenge competitors who already have their Distinguished Service Pistol Badges, as well as to inspire men, women and juniors who were not previously active in Service Pistol matches to take an interest in competitive pistol shooting.

Marksmanship competition flourishes - Hundreds take shots at shooting clinic - By Patrick Pfanner, Sandusky Register - The Civilian Marksmanship Program continued this week with the Small Arms Firing School. This shooting clinic included some time in the classroom where new shooters learned about shooting safety and how to hold a firearm. From there, hundreds were taken out to the shooting ranges at Camp Perry to practice firing their weapons. "I absolutely love it," shooter Serena Juchnowski, 16, said. Melton cadets learn how to become top marksman - Melton Times UK - A group of determined Air Cadets from the 1279 Melton Mowbray Squadron, spent a weekend practicing for their marksmanship badges. Youngsters were able to develop their skills that they had already learnt in initial weapons training and put them to good use on the rifle range. Each cadet showed massive improvements in their target shooting ability and scored enough to achieve squadron marksman badges, wing marksman badges and a corps marksman badge, the highest cadet marksman badge available. 4-H marksman invited to compete in World Cups - CENTREVILLE - Morgan Phillips, member of the Queen Anne's County 4-H Marksmanship Club, recently qualified at the USA Shooting National Rifle Championships at Fort Benning, Ga., to become a member of the National Junior Team. Morgan placed second in junior women's 3-position small bore rifle. Shortly after returning home to Maryland, she learned that she also earned enough points in the qualifying system to garner a coveted invitation to compete in the International Shooting Sports Federation's World Cup match which will be held in Gabala, Azerbaijan in mid-August. CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. The latest addition to the CMP is its 800-acre outdoor marksmanship facility in Talladega, Alabama. The CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park is the first of its kind in the country and is one of the most sophisticated in the world - housing electronic targets similar to those used in the CMP air gun ranges. Several events have been planned at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park:

 

Aug 22nd - USPSA Match hosted by Talladega Practical Shooters. USPSA registration begins at 8:00 am. A range safety briefing will be given at 8:30 am. Firing will begin at 9:00 am. For more information, call (256) 474-4408, ext. 460 or email cmptalladega@thecmp.org.

Sept 5th - M1 Carbine Match. The Civilian Marksmanship Program's Talladega Marksmanship Park is hosting a M1 Carbine match September 5th, 2015. All competitors in the Carbine Rifle match use a M1 Carbine and fire 40 shots at a distance of 100 yards. The course of fire is 15 shots slow-fire prone (first 5 shots are sighters); 10 shots rapid-fire prone; 10 shots rapid-fire sitting; 10 shots slow fire standing. Registration is open to the public. Sept 25-26th - CMP-GCA Clinic Talladega.
The GCA Convention Match will take place at the Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama on September 25-26, 2015.  During the convention the CMP will host a Vintage Sniper match on September 25 and a John C Garand match on September 26. The matches are limited to GCA convention members only.

Oct 17th - Alabama State High Power Championship. This is a non-EIC 800 aggregate match. 20 shots slow fire prone, 200 yards, 20 shots rapid fire sitting, 200 yards, 20 shots rapid fire prone 300 yards, 20 shots slow fire prone 600 yards. This match is open to the public. Firing will begin at 9:00 am, competitors must arrive no later than 8:30 to the Talladega Marksmanship Park Club House for orientation. This is a NRA registered tournament. The NRA classification system will be used and appropriate NRA points will be given. Appropriate championship awards will be given to Alabama residents only.

2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The CMP National Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match offers shooters a recreation-oriented competition where they use smallbore sporter rifles (plinking and small game rifles) commonly owned by almost all gun enthusiasts. This is a unique match where all you need is a rifle and ammo. You fire with standard sporter-type rimfire rifles that can weigh no more than 7 ½ pounds, with sights and sling.
