Franks Brothers Stay Close, Earn Badges at the 2015 National Trophy Pistol Matches


 

CAMP PERRY, OH - Though only a few National Trophy Pistol matches have been fired, this season has already proven to be one to remember - especially for two talented brothers and worthy opponents. In the EIC Pistol Match, SFC Patrick Franks, 37, of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), led overall with a score of 289-14x. With windy conditions on the Camp Perry ranges that day - at the forefront of an approaching afternoon storm - the weather challenged many competitors on the firing line. But, with his many years of experience, SFC Franks knew exactly what he needed to do in order to record a decent score.

Hampton's Sarah Osborn rising to national heights in shooting - By Tommy Hamzik, Daily Press - After shrugging off the coaches a few times, 8-year-old Sarah Osborn finally grabbed a rifle and stepped to the firing line. At a gun club with her father and her 6-year-old brother, Christopher, who had just received a BB-gun for Christmas, Osborn decided to fire a shot or two. With some added motivation, Osborn was hooked. "There was one shooter there who was two weeks into it," she said. "They set goals for you called a bar. Army Reserve Soldier hits bull's-eye during Interservice Rifle Championship - Story by 1st Class Phillip Eugene, dvidshub.net - QUANTICO, Va. - A Soldier with the Army Reserve took top honors at the 54th annual Interservice Rifle Team Championship. Capt. Samuel Freeman, who earned the title of overall individual winner, and also took home the Lt. Col. C.A. U.S. High Schools Embrace Shooting as Hot New Sport - By Esme E Deprez, Bloomberg.com - The giddy 13-year-old boys oohed and aahed as they stared down the black shotgun barrels and aimed at clay targets they imagined whizzing through the air. "You guys are welcome to test any of these out," said Dusty Minke, a sales agent for Browning, as the teens elbowed each other for spots at his kiosk. "We've actually had a couple of kids who did so good on the test range that they were like, 'Can I use this for my rounds?' 2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the 6th annual National Matches Air Gun Events. These events are part of the National Matches at Camp Perry. Their purpose is to offer additional competition opportunities for National Matches pistol and rifle competitors as well as for anyone who wants to shoot in the National Matches with their air pistols or air rifles. All of these events will take place at The CMP Gary Anderson Competition Center on MegaLink electronic targets.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on the dates listed below at the CMP's Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match. Rental equipment is available for the monthly matches for a small fee.
