What does a good shooter look like?

 

What does a good shooter look like? On June 23, 2015 at the Gary Anderson Competition Center, a string of 10 shots with a score of 10x was shot.  A 10x is a shot in the very center of the bullseye. By anyone's standards, that score is good shooting. Now for the rest of the story. On August 5, 2014 Ruth Ann Anderson, wife of Gary, the CMP's director emeritus, gathered a group of ladies from her church and other friends to meet at the Anderson Center airgun range. They called themselves the Annie Oakley's. The majority of these ladies had never shot anything before. Ruth Ann had pellets for the group donated by Scott Pilkington. Gary Anderson offered to volunteer his instruction. The Annie Oakleys were off to a great start!

Peterson, Palermo Lead at 2015 CMP 3P Air Rifle Championships

 

ANNISTON, AL - The 3rd Annual CMP National Air Rifle Championship for sporter and precision three position air rifle was held June 23 and 26 at the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) South Competition Center in Anniston, AL. The event was conducted along with the National Junior Olympic 3PAR Championships and drew some of the most talented young marksmen in the country.

Sutton, Hampton Earn Gold at 2015 Junior Olympic Championships


ANNISTON, AL - Sarah Sutton, 17, of Black Swamp Jr. Rifle Club in Ohio, gave an outstanding finals performance during the National Junior Olympic Championships, held June 22 and 25 at the CMP South Marksmanship Center in Anniston, AL - jumping from seventh place to first for the win in the precision class.

National Matches are steeped in history - The Blade - By Matt Markey - PORT CLINTON - The Ohio National Guard installation at Camp Perry has been the host of the premier shooting event in the nation for more than a century. The National Matches return to Camp Perry over the next six weeks, and the competition is expected to bring more than 6,000 shooters from around the world to the site along the shores of Lake Erie. The National Matches got their start with 1903 legislation backed by President Theodore Roosevelt, who supported funding the competition to upgrade overall military marksmanship, while at the same time enhancing national defense preparedness. NJROTC Marksmanship team scores well in nationals - By Naval Science Instructor Norman Greear, Times News - CHURCH HILL - Most high school students are probably spending their summer months soaking up the sun and sleeping late, before having to return to school in mid August. Not so with the cadets of the Volunteer High School NJROTC rifle team. News from the CMP 

 

2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the 6th annual National Matches Air Gun Events. These events are part of the National Matches at Camp Perry. Their purpose is to offer additional competition opportunities for National Matches pistol and rifle competitors as well as for anyone who wants to shoot in the National Matches with their air pistols or air rifles. All of these events will take place at The CMP Gary Anderson Competition Center on MegaLink electronic targets.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on the dates listed below at the CMP's Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match. Rental equipment is available for the monthly matches for a small fee.

The CMP "Aces" Postal satellite match offers all junior and adult air rifle and air pistol shooters a program designed to encourage participation in the sport and test marksmanship skills nationally with their peers.
