Top Junior Marksmen to Compete for the Gold at CMP National 3P Air Rifle Championship

 

ANNISTON, Ala. - The 2015 CMP National Three Position Air Rifle Championships will be held June 21-23 and June 24-26 at the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) South Competition Center in Anniston, Ala. to a group of over 350 hopeful junior marksmen in search of a National Title. Competitors, families and friends will be traveling to the state to witness the last stage of an event that has spanned nearly eight months.

TALLADEGA, AL - On the weekend of June 5-7, hundreds drove through rows of trees down the unassuming, winding road that leads to the front gates of the most advanced outdoor public facility in the country - the Civilian Marksmanship Program's Talladega Marksmanship Park - to compete in its inaugural rifle and pistol matches. Guests and Celebrities Give Reviews of CMP's Talladega Marksmanship Park

 

TALLADEGA, AL - On June 6, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) held its Inaugural D-Day John C. Garand Match, along with EIC pistol and rifle matches the following day, at its new Talladega Marksmanship Park. The event served as a first look at the facility many had anticipated but had never seen. After guests had the opportunity to explore the grounds, a host of encouraging reviews flooded the CMP staff.

Competitor Dons Uniform to Represent 26th U.S. Calvary During Inaugural Weekend at Talladega

 

Gary Hurd, 67, currently of Anniston, AL, was one of the many competitors who stopped out to the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park during its inaugural matches in June. But unlike other competitors, he didn't just arrive at the range to shoot and observe. He also came to symbolize an often overlooked group that deserves praise for their brave efforts during WWII - and he came in style.

Tiger Trap Team focuses on safety, better marksmanship - By Mark Peterson, Editor, Stewartville Star - In an open field just north of the Stewartville Sportsman's Club, the students stood five in a row as they waited for their turn to shoot. At regular intervals, the students called, "Pull!" and Ronn Carlson, the trap operator, released the orange disks into the air. As the guns sounded pop!....pop!....pop!....pop!" seconds apart, some of the disks shattered into smaller pieces, some continued to fly unharmed. Senior marksman sets sights on Kentucky - By Michael Kelley, Staff Writer, Scarborough Leader - Scarborough High School senior Brandon Bryer will head to Morehead State University in Kentucky this fall to take a shot at college athletics and academics. On April 15, Bryer signed a letter of intent to be part of the Morehead State University rifle team, which competes in the Ohio Valley Conference of the NCAA. Bryer, who grew up around guns and fired his first gun at 3 years old, began shooting at Scarborough Rod and Gun Club, a stone's throw from his Dresser Avenue home, four years ago as part of a rifle team. Soldiers' Bianchi debut leads to top finishes - By Sgt. 1st Class Raymond J. Piper, USAMU Public Affairs - FORT BENNING, Ga. - Soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit made a memorable debut at the 2015 U.S. Midway and National Rifle Association Bianchi Cup. Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Franks won first place in the metallic division with a total score of 1902-140x. Sgt. 1st Class Adam Sokolowski won fourth in the production division with a total score of 1862-110x. Staff Sgt. Lawrence Cleveland took sixth place in the metallic division with a total score of 1859-124x. The x-count is the number of times the competitor hit inside the center ring of the target through each of the matches and is used to break ties. The annual competition is the NRA's national championship for action shooting and was in Columbia, Mo., May 19 to 22. Read the complete article.

CMP Affiliated Club News. On April, 25, 2015, members of the Proctor Fish & Game Club in Pittsford, VT, held a Rimfire Sporter Match. The Rimfire Sporter Match is for smallbore rifles that weigh 7 1/2 pounds or less with sights. O-Class rifles have open sights; T-Class rifles have telescopes (max. 6X) or receiver sights. Firing is done at 50 and 25 yards in prone, sitting and standing positions, in slow and rapid fire modes. Three-Position Air Rifle National Record Set. Sarah Sutton, of the Black Swamp Jr. Rifle Club, shot a new junior team national record score of 597-52x during the CMP Junior Rifle Camp. This is also a new Gary Anderson CMP competition center range record!

The 54th Annual Interservice Rifle Championship hosted by the Weapons Training Battalion will take place 24 June - 1 July, Quantico, Virginia. The Championship offers service rifle competitions for teams and individuals representing the Armed Services, Active, Reserve and National Guard, to include ROTC and Service Academies of the United States. 2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. Their purpose is to offer additional competition opportunities for National Matches pistol and rifle competitors as well as for anyone who wants to shoot in the National Matches with their air pistols or air rifles. All of these events will take place at The CMP Gary Anderson Competition Center on MegaLink electronic targets.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches.
