CMP Officially Dedicates Most Advanced Facility in the Country

 

TALLADEGA, AL - On June 5, 2015, a crowd of over 400 invited guests made the trek to the Civilian Marksmanship Program's (CMP) latest, $20 million installment - the Talladega Marksmanship Park - to help officially mark its opening. With the park's variety of rifle, pistol and shotgun ranges containing state-of-the-art electronic targets and scoring systems, the invitees were able to explore the facility that has all of the components of being branded the most advanced marksmanship park in the country.

New EIC Event, History-Making Score Make 2015 Eastern CMP Games One to Remember

 

CAMP BUTNER, NC - Over 400 competitors made the trip to Camp Butner to compete in 953 event at the 2015 Eastern CMP Games. This year's Games included incredible highlights, including the introduction of a new EIC pistol match and a record-breaking, historical performance by a talented junior marksman. For the first time, competitors have the opportunity to receive a .22 Rimfire Pistol Distinguished Badge with the introduction of the new .22 Rimfire EIC Match Course. During the match, competitors fire a total of 30 shots from 50 and 25 yards. The Top 10 percent received their first EIC points towards their Distinguished Badges.

Competitor Embodies British Marine at 2015 Eastern CMP Games Vintage Sniper Match

 

CAMP BUTNER, NC - Jeff Rowsam, 59, of Denmark, WI, stood out at the Vintage Sniper Match at the 2015 Eastern Games at Camp Butner, NC, in his authentic British WWII Royal Marine uniform. He toughed out the entire match, shot at both the 300 and 600 yard lines, in his Denison smock in the sweltering southern heat.

Setting their sights on the future - By Jessica Denton, News Herald - CAMP PERRY -  On a sunny Tuesday evening in early June, many teenagers would be outside, soaking up the first few days of freedom from school. But there are a few teens who spend theirs indoors shooting air rifles, preparing for their next competitions and pursuing marksmanship. Governor, congressman attend Civilian Marksmanship Park grand opening - By Robert Richardson, ABC 33/40 - TALLADEGA, Ala. - Congressman Mike Rogers and his son Evan fired shots in the first competition at Talladega's new Civilian Marksmanship Park. The 500-acre state of the art facility has several ranges for different types of guns including pistols and rifles.  Chief Operating Officer Mark Johnson said workers completed construction on time and the project came in under the original budget of $20-million. "It was an uphill battle to do that, but we brought it in just as it should be," Johnson said. "We're very proud it came in on time and under budget.  Now we get to enjoy it, the community gets to enjoy it, and the country gets to enjoy it and we very much look forward to that." Marines experience weapons from Greatest Generation - By Lance Cpl. Thomas Mudd - Dvidshub.net - TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Operation Neptune, the largest amphibious assault in history better known as D-Day, began June 6, 1944, as Allied Forces liberated Normandy, France. In memory of D-Day, the Marines of the Combat Center Shooting Team participated in the Combat Center D-Day Match sponsored by the High Desert Competitive Shooting Club. Post Falls sharpshooter earns marksmanship scholarship to Ole Miss - By Steve Christilaw, The Spokesman-Review - Randi Loudin is, literally, Post Falls High School's shooting star. "I started out shooting trap and skeet when I was 6- or 7-years old," she said. "When I was 13, I switched over to the Olympic-style rifle. I shoot both small-bore rifle (.22 caliber) and air rifle." News from the CMP 

Monthly Match League Results. Scores from the six monthly matches in 2015 will be combined to determine an overall champion. A running total of qualification scores will be kept for all participants at both locations. The top four scores for each participant will be used to determine the winners. Shooters must fire in four or more matches to be eligible for these awards. Low scores will be dropped. A portion of every entry from the six matches will be put into an overall prize pool. Plaques will also be awarded to the High Junior in Pistol and Rifle and the most improved competitor. The 54th Annual Interservice Rifle Championship hosted by the Weapons Training Battalion will take place 24 June - 1 July, Quantico, Virginia. The Championship offers service rifle competitions for teams and individuals representing the Armed Services, Active, Reserve and National Guard, to include ROTC and Service Academies of the United States. 2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match.
