Junior Samuel Payne Fires First Perfect Score in Rimfire Sporter Match at Eastern Games

 

CAMP BUTNER, NC - Since its inception as a CMP Games event in 2002, many marksmen of all ages have strived to make history by being the first to earn a perfect 600 in the popular Rimfire Sporter Match, but none have been able to capture the title - that is, not until Samuel Payne stepped up to the firing line. Sam, 16, of Kingston, GA, fired a perfect score of 600-50x during the Rimfire Sporter Match in the T-Class at the 2015 Eastern CMP Games in Camp Butner, NC. It was a feat that no other had been able to accomplish - and one few are likely to repeat.

Stonecipher Wins Rifle 3-Gun & 4-Gun Aggregates

 

ARCADIA, OK - Larry Stonecipher, 62, of Ada, OK, won the CMP 3-Gun and 4-Gun aggregate rifle matches at the Oklahoma City Gun Club as part of the 2015 CMP Games Oklahoma Event, which ran from April 8-12. Stonecipher won the traditional CMP 3-Gun Agg, and also high senior, with a second place finish in the Springfield Rifle Match (286-4x), a fourth place in the As-Issued John C. Garand Match (283-10x) and a sixth place finish in the Vintage Military Bolt Rifle Match (275-3x) for an aggregate total of 844-17x. He placed fifth in the Modern Military Rifle Match (286-6x) to win the 4-Gun aggregate with a total four-event score of 1130-23x and was high senior.

Selma High MCJROTC marksmen take state spots - Selma High senior Cassandra Robledo and sophomore Danielle Louie took the top positions at the March 28 California State Junior Olympics Three-Position Air Rifle Championship in Sutter. Robledo walked away with the Junior State Champion plaque and Louie took the Woman State Championship as the team also gathered points to reach the National American Legion competition later this summer. Sponsored by the California Rifle and Pistol Association and the Twin Cities Rod and Gun Club, the State Championship highlighted the best air rifle marksmen in the state. CMP Affiliated Club News. On April 12, 2015, eight University of Notre Dame students and Midshipmen from the Notre Dame Navy ROTC participated in their first CMP Rimfire Sporter Match. The match was hosted by the St. Joseph Valley Rifle and Pistol Association at the Chief Wa-Ke'-De range, in Bristol, Indiana. Members of the club provided equipment and expertise to ensure that the event was both fun and instructional. For many of the students, it was their first opportunity to shoot a sporter rifle in competition. Expanded future events are in the planning stages. The Wa-Ke'-De range hosts Rimfire Sporter matches at regular intervals during the Summer and early Fall, and can be found on the CMP website

The Cesar Chavez JROTC Varsity Air Rifle Marksmanship Team finished a close second in the U.S. Western Region Air Rifle Championship,  April 9-11 in Sandy, Utah. The four-cadet team is Alex Barraza, Vanessa Brady, Brendaya Grigsby and Shawn Phinsavanh. The tournament was organized and conducted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), and featured the best teams from 18 western states. Three of the four CCHS members (Barraza, Brady and Grigsby) finished in the top 10 of 180 athletes competing in the Sporter category and were awarded special medallions for their individual high scores. Cadet Grigsby is currently ranked #2 in Arizona. In recognition for their team accomplishment, members were presented silver-plated medallions and a beautifully crafted acrylic trophy, as well as a check for $1,200. Additionally, the team earned a $2,000 endowment from the MidwayUSA Foundation. The CCHS team is ranked seventh nationally in the CMP standings, and will be competing for national championship honors in Anniston, Alabama, June 24-26. JROTC Instructor Major Stanley Evanko is the team coach.


 


 

News from the CMP 

In Memoriam - First Sergeant Aaron Jeffrey Bosch, passed away on April 20, 2015, at Ryukyu University Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, surrounded by his family and friends. Bosch enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Dec. 13, 1995. In April of 2006, he reported for duty at Weapons Training Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Quantico. While there he joined the Marine Corps Shooting Team instructing marksmanship and competing at the national level with the bolt gun and service rifle. He conducted numerous junior-shooting clinics and instructed at multiple divisional matches, including the Far East and the West Coast. On Aug. 1, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He continued to compete and lead Marines and subsequently, he earned his Distinguished Rifle Shooting Badge at a National level shooting match. In lieu of his abilities, he represented the Marine Corps in the 2008 Canadian National Shooting Competition. The National Three Position Air Rifle Championship National Qualifiers are now posted on the CMP website at

There were 485 competitors in the Regionals in March and April and over 2,100 in the State 3PAR Junior Olympic matches. Teams and individuals are asked to accept or decline by 3 June. 2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The celebration is a two-day event which includes tours of the facility, a special John C. Garand Rifle Match on Saturday commemorating the 71st anniversary of the Allied Forces D-Day landing at Normandy Beach and Service Rifle EIC, Service Pistol EIC and .22 Rimfire Pistol EIC Matches on Sunday.
