CMP 3PAR Regionals Kick Off in Ohio While Remaining Set to Fire at Alabama and Utah


CAMP PERRY, OH - The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) took another step toward the 2015 CMP 3PAR National Championship with the North Regional Championship, held in the world-class Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry, March 26-28. The event was the first of three Regional Championships to be held across the country, with the remaining matches firing April 9-11 at CMP's South Competition Center in Anniston, AL, and at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah. With winners of the Ohio championship established, remaining competitors now have goals to shoot for during their coming matches in April.

Making Dry Firing Targets


Dry firing was a valuable training method before ammunition prices became ridiculous. Now, dry firing has the economic benefit of not consuming expensive ammunition and barrel life and can be done at home. For safety, always be absolutely sure that there is no ammunition present, and train safely. Have a hard backstop capable of stopping a shot in any case, and keep the downrange area clear of anything that can be injured or damaged if you screw up. Basements may be preferable to upstairs.

The park will open May 6 with the dedication scheduled for June 5, 2015. Testing of the electronic scoring and final cleanup will take place from now until opening day. I-West, Central shooters win 4th title for Miller

Josie Peters led the Iroquois West Clifton Central Co-Op Rifle Team to the fourth State Scholastic Rifle Team Championship since 1991 under veteran coach Jim Miller, of rural Onarga. Peters fired a 571-600 with 24 center shots to win the individual Illinois High School Rifle League Championship and clinch the team title for the Raiders, Miller reports. Woodbridge JROTC marksman aiming to be a firefighterGREENWOOD - After high school graduation, Justin Minton's career aim is to be a firefighter. As a member of Woodbridge High School's Marine Corps Junior ROTC program, he has got precise aim in marksmanship. The 17-year-old junior from Greenwood qualified for the 2015 JROTC Regional Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio after shooting his personal best marksmanship score - 260 out of 300 - in the 2015 JROTC National Postal Competition. Read the complete article.

2015 Biennial Coach College and Conference - Coach College 24-26 August and Coach Conference 28-30 August - USAS wants all coaches that are interested to have access to the information presented at these Biennial Coach Conferences. This year USAS will pilot the live coach conference broadcast to all USAS Certified Training Centers (CTC) and a few other independent sites. This will allow coaches the choice of traveling to a closer broadcast site that maybe in commuting distance which will reduce travel time and cost. They will still offer an opportunity to attend the live conference here at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Registration fee is $170. The CMP Games - Oklahoma, sponsored by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, will be held at the Oklahoma City Gun Club. The CMP Games - Oklahoma will feature clinics, SAFS/M16 match, EIC Rifle Match, GSMM Four Gun Aggregate, Vintage Sniper Match, CMP As-Issued 1911 Pistol Match, Military & Police Service Pistol Match, EIC Pistol match, and several other events! The Civilian Marksmanship Program invites you and your team to participate in the CMP's Monthly Matches. The matches will take place on the dates listed below at the CMP's Marksmanship Centers North and South. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20 and 3x10, a 60 Shots Air Rifle and Air Pistol match, and a 20 shot Novice Prone match. Rental equipment is available for the monthly matches for a small fee.
