Then Anderson began reading about competitive shooting in magazines, and he wanted to learn the sport. So he taught himself how to target shoot. Gulfport's JROTC rifle team wins Junior Olympics title - By Kate Magandy - SunHerald.com - Gulfport High School's Marine Corps Junior ROTC won the Junior Olympic 3-Position Air Rifle Championships in June in Ohio. The Admirals team won state in May and qualified for two national competitions, both held at Camp Perry, Ohio, June 24-25. Young marksmen -- and women -- take aim - National Matches kick off in Erie Township this week - By Alex Green, The Ottawa County Register - Fenway Park is baseball's storied shrine. Lambeau Field is the sacred place of professional football. And many claim Camp Perry in Erie Township is the ultimate location nationwide for rifle competitions. The storied National Matches, which began in 1903, kicked off Monday with its opening ceremony. More than a month of nonstop action is underway following the ceremony that saw Gary Anderson, one of the sport's all-time legends and two-time Olympic gold medal winner, fire the opening shot. Anderson is closely linked with the Civilian Marksmanship Program at Camp Perry and the program's indoor firing range is named after him. Air Pistol Classes for Kids - A class in the Red River Valley is introducing kids to shooting sports while emphasizing safety. The West Fargo Parks District has teamed up with the Red River Regional Marksmanship Center for classes in the fall. The goals of the class include safe air gun handling, trigger control, sight alignment and an introduction to other shooting events. All kids attending are required to have an adult with them. Any inappropriate behavior will lead to being dismissed from the class.

Rob Sailer with the Red River Regional Marksmanship Center says junior and adult classes will also be offered this fall. ANNOUNCEMENT DEDICATION PRIZE SHOOT WINNER
Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center

Congratulations to Carmen Bova! The winner of the Dedication Prize Shoot and the Winchester "Bavarian" M1 Carbine, SN 5741019, was Carmen Bova.

The pre-designated x and y coordinates for the Dedication prize shoot were x -5.42, y 6.55. Carmen Bova's winning shot scored x -5.53, y 6.99. The winning shot was 0.45 mm away from the pre-designated coordinates. This is less than one-half of a millimeter. The next closest shot was 0.70 mm from the pre-designated coordinates. Six different shots were less than one millimeter from that spot.

We wish to thank and "congratulate" each of the 448 persons who shot in the Dedication Prize Shoot for their participation. The range was busy all day on 7 July from the late morning until 7:00 PM. Special thanks must go to the CMP staff and Range Officers who worked tirelessly the entire day to make the prize shoot a success.

Shooters, including aspiring new shooters, adult and youth, who live in the Anniston, Alabama, area are invited to take advantage of the opportunity to do practice shooting at the Marksmanship Center air gun ranges. Both 80-point, 10-meter air gun ranges are fully equipped with electronic targets that accommodate air rifle, air pistol or National Match Air Rifle shooting. Rental equipment is available for a small fee.
 
Open Public Shooting will not be held in the month of July in Port Clinton, OH. The Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center will be hosting the National Match Air Gun Events which are open to the public.
