CMP Supports 4-H Shooting Sports

CMP Supports 4-H Shooting Sports. The CMP annually supports 4-H Shooting Sports. Below are Thank Yous from State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinators.

New Jersey 4-H Shooting Sports used last year's donation to support our state volunteer training. We sent four volunteers to the national 4-H shooting sports training. The cost of this training would have been prohibitive without your donation.

The four volunteers then conducted a training for 45 adult volunteers and 4-H leaders. Those club level volunteers will then teach as many as 200 youth about archery, rifles, shot guns, muzzleloaders or pistols.

Now that we have been able to develop our own team of instructors, we will be able to offer more trainings and will not have to beg borrow and steal instructors from other states.

The Pennsylvania 4-H Shooting Sports program reaches 1,879 members in shooting sports projects utilizing over 275 adult volunteers who participate in this exciting experience. Youth learn communication skills, life skills, foster sound decision-making, self-discipline, and promote the highest standards of safe and responsible use of firearms.

Our program teaches the safe and responsible use of firearms in the disciplines of pistol, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, and archery, plus it helps to strengthen families through participation in lifelong recreational activities. Pennsylvania 4-H reaches an additional 1,450 youth through special interest experiences, camps, fairs, and other outdoor educational opportunities.

Sixty nine volunteer shooting sports instructors were trained to continue to strengthen and build our PA program. The resources from CMP help fund volunteer instructor training and provide supplies for the training.

I would like to thank you and Civilian Marksmanship Program for your donation to the Pennsylvania State 4-H youth Shooting Sports program.

Exploring the humble beginnings of the M1 rifle - By Sam Moore, Farm and Dairy - With this month being the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, it might be an appropriate time to look at the U.S. infantry weapon that played a significant role in winning that war, the US rifle, caliber-.30, M1, sometimes called the Garand, but most often referred to by the G.I.s who carried it (including me) as simply the M1. Gun controversy lost on new shooting stars - By Sally Jacobs, The Boston Globe - While adults take sides on the propriety and safety of firearms, competitive marksmanship is a growing draw for children and teens who find satisfaction in the discipline a bull's-eye requires. News from the CMP

PROPOSED CHANGES IN CMP PISTOL PROGRAMThe CMP Pistol Program promotes and governs U. S. bulls-eye target pistol shooting with "service pistols." This program includes the Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges, National Trophy Pistol Matches, Pistol EIC Matches, the Pistol Small Arms Firing School and CMP Games Pistol Matches. This program is revered for its time-honored traditions and it enjoys the esteem of countless pistol shooters. Nevertheless, two critical concerns have caused the CMP to consider changes in this program. First, overall program participation has declined over a period of many years. Second, many shooters and match sponsors are calling for changes to increase participation and offer more competition opportunities. In response to these concerns, the CMP Rules Committee convened a "blue ribbon" panel of pistol experts to evaluate the CMP Pistol Program and recommend possible changes. The CMP Pistol Program Review Panel includes experts who represent all aspects of competitive pistol shooting, including experienced competitors, match officials and advanced pistol armorers. The Panel has produced a comprehensive document titled CMP Pistol Program Changes that is now posted on the CMP website. This document describes the changes to the CMP Pistol Program that are being considered. The CMP invites pistol shooters, match officials and other concerned persons to study this document and forward their comments to [email protected]. Comments should be received not later than 7 July 2014.
