CMP Awards $160,000 in Scholarships for the 2014-2015 Term with Record Number of Applicants

CAMP PERRY, OH - In mid-April, Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) board members and staff sifted through a slew of CMP scholarship applications to determine which young scholar marksmen would receive CMP support for the coming academic year. After careful and considerate review, the CMP awarded monetary donations to over half of its scholarship applicants.

CMP Excited to be a Visible Participant at the 2014 Walleye Festival

CAMP PERRY, OHIO - The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will once again offer free BB-Gun demonstrations at the 34th Annual Walleye Festival at Port Clinton's Waterworks Park. Kids of all ages, including supervised kids under 18, are welcome to visit the CMP's portable BB Gun range on the festival grounds and try their hand at some old-time marksmanship fun.

Harold Pate Leads All Rifle Competitors at CMP Games - Oklahoma

ARCADIA, OK - Harold Pate, 52, of Ft. Worth, TX, put on quite a rifle marksmanship display in the military rifle portion of the 2014 CMP Games - Oklahoma, winning both the Three-Gun and Four-Gun Aggregate rifle championships and racking up a total of 10 Excellence-in-Competition points.

NSSF Invites Colleges to Apply for $100,000 in Grants to Start Target Shooting Programs - The National Shooting Sports Foundation is making a total of $100,000 in grants available to public and private colleges for start-ups of new target-shooting clubs and teams. The grants are provided through NSSF's Collegiate Shooting Sports Initiative, which has assisted more than 75 schools with building competitive and recreational shooting programs through more than $1 million in support. The program is credited with helping to spur growth in collegiate target shooting across the country. NSSF is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry. MSgt Julia Watson, USMCR, was recently featured in the Shooting Sports USA magazine. MSgt Watson is no stranger to the awards podium, recently she was the Overall Individual Service Rifle Champion in the CMP's National Trophy Rifle Matches and won the Women's Rifle Trophy, General Shepherd Trophy, Mountain Man Trophy, GySgt Carlos Hathcock Trophy and Pershing Trophy in 2013. This past March, MSgt Watson earned a silver medal in the Competition-In-Arms Program Western Divisional marksmanship competition earning her Pistol Distinguished Badge and becoming only the fourth Double Distinguished female Marine in both rifle and pistol. Pocomoke High School teacher Timothy Shaner wants to change that. The longtime ROTC instructor, a recent transplant from Arizona, is working to increase interest in marksmanship both at his school and across Delmarva. USAMU accepting applications for advanced junior rifle camp - The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit is accepting applications for the annual Advanced Junior Rifle Camp. The camp will be held Aug. 4-8, 2014, at the USAMU's Pool International Range Complex located on Fort Benning, Ga. The USAMU Junior Rifle Camp is an advanced rifle camp open to juniors aged 14-18. The camp will be limited to 25 shooters, and acceptance will be based on previous matches shot. This camp is primarily a smallbore camp. The juniors will receive coaching from the world-class Soldier/Athletes of the International Rifle Team, including Olympians, World and National champions. Eastern Junior Highpower Clinic & Championship - June 22-28, 2014 - In an effort to promote interest, education, and competition to the sport of Highpower Rifle Shooting among Junior shooters, a group of Junior coaches and Military coaches have come together to organize the 2014 Eastern United States Junior Highpower Clinic and Championship. Experienced coaches and instructors from the United States Army Reserve Rifle Team and military personnel will be conducting clinics for both new and experienced junior shooters. Instruction in both shooting individual matches and shooting as a member of a coached team will also be provided. This week long program is offered to provide junior shooters an opportunity to expand their current level of knowledge, experience and expertise. It is also an opportunity for junior shooters to come together to experience the each other's company and to form bonds of friendship and camaraderie within the sport. 2014 Interservice Rifle Championship Matches - The 53nd Interservice Rifle Championship offers service rifle competitions for teams and individuals representing the Armed Services, Active, Reserve and National Guard, to include ROTC and Service Academies of the United States. The CMP Custom Shop continues to deliver on its promise to upgrade, accurized, customize and refinish traditional U.S.G.I. rifles. Custom Shop work also includes routine repairs and troubleshooting. John McLean, Custom Shop Manager, encourages those who have specific questions or unusual work requests, to call the shop directly at 256-835-8455, ext. 2114. The shop opened in October 2013 and while demand is strong, the turnaround time remains good, with about a 30-day backlog.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the 6th annual National Matches Air Gun Events. These events are part of the National Matches at Camp Perry. Their purpose is to offer additional competition opportunities for National Matches pistol and rifle competitors as well as for anyone who wants to shoot in the National Matches with their air pistols or air rifles. All of these events will take place at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center on MegaLink electronic targets.

Both 80-point, 10-meter air gun ranges are fully equipped with electronic targets that accommodate air rifle, air pistol or National Match Air Rifle shooting.
