Hey ,
How about that blasted Arkansas snow? It was fun while it lasted (for those of us at the AIA office in Little Rock), but we're sure glad the kids are back in school and we're back to business as usual. Wherever you may be reading this from, we hope you're staying warm!
As always, use the links on the left or simply scroll down the page to see what has been and what will be going on with AIA Arkansas. If you have news you would like to share that meets the submission guidelines, please submit it to Alexis Teal. The next deadline is March 31, 2015.
"Good Architecture remains ageless and beautiful."

A Message from the President

AIA Arkansas is blessed to have talented members who willingly step forward and ask "How can I help, how can I be of service?" These volunteers serve the membership with enthusiasm and dedication. Let me highlight a few of our volunteers:
Randy Palculict, 2015 Secretary: Randy without a doubt has the most important and most difficult job of any AIA Arkansas member! As part of his Secretary duties Randy chairs the 2015 State Convention committee. They have already started planning this year's convention, which will be be October 15th - 17th in Hot Springs. I hope you're planning to attend.
Heather Davis, 2015 Associate Director: Heather chairs the 2015 Emerging Professionals Committee. Her committee seeks to engage with Associates, Emerging Professionals and AIAs members. Currently, they are working to create a mentorship program between seasoned architects and emerging professionals.
Graham Sharum, 2015 Fort Smith Section Chair: Graham and others in the Fort Smith Section are organizing Bridge the Gap 2015, a design competition to take place in the Fort Smith Belle Historic District. The competition is being planned in association with other state and local organizations.
Gordon Duckworth, 2015 Legislative/PAC Committee Chair: The practice of architecture seems to be a persistent target for new legislation intended to undermine our profession. This committee is our first and last line of defense against such legislation. They often take time to meet with legislators to educate them on how specific legislation will adversely affect the practice of architecture.
Craig Boone, 2015 Allied Development Committee Chair: AIA Arkansas could not provide the member services we do without the dedicated support of our Allied Members. This committee works to improve their membership benefits as well as recruit new members.
In addition to the great work these individuals and committees are doing, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge Brent Stevenson Associates. Brent and his staff just celebrated 10 years with our organization. He and his staff have worked diligently to represent AIA Arkansas and our interests. Under the directorship of Brent Stevenson Associates, our organization has grown in AIA membership, Allied membership, and the AIA Arkansas Convention has expanded - offering more events and learning opportunities than ever before. Please take a moment to thank Brent and the staff for all their hard work.
I challenge you to volunteer this year. Your ideas and service will strengthen our professional organization. Many of the committees communicate via emails or conference calls, so it will not take up much of your time. Contact me and we will find where you can best serve your AIA Arkansas.
Respectfully,
Mark O. Cahoon, AIA
