May 9:  
Youth Leadership Graduation

Forty-seven members will be participating in the Youth Leadership Graduation Thursday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Chuckey-Doak High School.  Also, this year's Youth Council will be honored with a reception Monday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the Crescent Building (615 W. Main Street).  Youth Council members gave back to the community by volunteering  3,903 hours in the 2012-13 school year.  Come out and support these great students.

Membership Breakfast

Don't forget to RSVP for the May Membership Breakfast Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 a.m. at Hal Henard Elementary School.  The sponsor is the Greeneville City School System, and  the cost is $3 with reservations, $8 without.  Call 638-4111 or email gcp@greenecop.com to make reservations.  Please note the change of date in the breakfast.

Deadline For Member Emailing

Space is available for the June Member Emailing.  The emailing is an opportunity for members to showcase their businesses or products at a cost of only $100.  The deadline to submit a one-page PDF file to the Partnership is Friday, June 7.  For more information, call Lori Collins at 638-4111 or email gcp@greenecop.com.

June Dairy Days

Mark your calendar for the Partnership's Agribusiness Committee June Dairy Days Celebration Friday, June 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds Livestock Pavilion.  There will be contests for all ages, entertainment and plenty of free dairy product samples as the community recognizes its dairy farmers.

19th Annual Iris Festival 

The booth spaces are rapidly filling up for the 19th Annual Iris Festival that will be held May 18-19 in downtown historic Greeneville. Seventy-four craft booths and 40 merchant booths have already been reserved, and the Food Court will be hosting 20 food vendors. Non-stop entertainment has been scheduled on both the main stage and dancing stage, and the entries are being accepted for both the Evergreene Woodcarvers Competition and Show, as well as the Miss Iris Festival Pageant.  In addition, Main Street: Greeneville is making final arrangements for its Greeneville Garden Tour scheduled for Saturday while Takoma Adventist Hospital is promoting its Wellness Challenge 5K and Family Fun Day to take place after the festival closes on Sunday.  The hours of the festival are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.  For more information or to reserve a booth space, call the Partnership, 638-4111, or email gcp@greenecop.com.

 

Kids' Day On The Farm

The Agribusiness Committee of the Partnership is making final preparations for Kids' Day on the Farm Tuesday, May 7, at the Research and Education Center of Greeneville.  This is always a great opportunity for the city and county schools' third graders to learn the different aspects of farming.

Bachman-Bernard Chevrolet won the Iron Eyes Cody Traveling Trophy at the Keep Greene Beautiful Golf 
Tournament on May 2 at Nolichucky View Golf Club.  Members of the team were John Bernard, Todd Ricker, Darius Hoese and Ken Oldenberg.  Runners-up were members of the Greeneville Light & Power System team: Bill Carroll, Michael Scalf, Jody Wigington and Bob Windham.  Special thanks to the lunch sponsor, Rodefer Moss & Co; the contest sponsors, Marsh Propane, Wal-Mart Logistics and Air Pro Heating and Cooling; hole sponsors and door prize sponsors, as well as Greeneville Oil & Petroleum, Coca-Cola and Premium Waters.

National Tourism Week

Tourism is celebrating National Tourism Week this week, May 4-12, by presenting five "Presidential Pioneers in Hospitality" Awards, as well as honoring the 150th guest at the Andrew Johnson Visitor Center and working the Bristol Welcome Center on Thursday to greet guests entering the state. 

 

Historic Downtown Scavenger Hunt

The Tourism Advisory Task Force is putting together a historic downtown "scavenger hunt" for people to participate in during the Iris Festival.  You can pick up information on the scavenger hunt at Tourism's tent below the Partnership office, find the clues, fill in the blanks and bring them back to the tent to be entered to win a prize each day.  Special thanks to Cheryl Summers at the Forestry Service for putting the hunt together.

FREE Mammograms Sponsored By Belk

The Greeneville Belk store will host the Belk Mobile Mammography Bus May 14-15 to perform FREE mammograms!  To qualify, individuals must be 40 years of age or older, not have any known current breast concerns, have a physician to receive the scans/reports, and it must have been at least 12 months since their last mammogram.  The first appointment will be at 9:45 a.m. and the last appointment will be at 6:30 p.m.  To schedule an appointment, call 1-855-655-2662 or visit the Greeneville Belk store for assistance.
