Antique Appraisal Fair Preview Party (15th) & Eight Annual Antique Appraisal Fair & Show (16th)

Tickets are on sale now for the Antique Appraisal Fair Preview Party Friday, February 15, 7-9 p.m. at GHS.  The cost is $10 per person and tickets are available at Antiques, Etc., Greeneville Real Estate and Auction Team and the Partnership Office. Festivities include refreshments, live entertainment by Blue Edition and a silent auction.  Antique dealers will be selling their treasures to those looking to purchase antiques prior to Saturday's  Eighth Annual Antique Appraisal Fair & Show (February 16).  More than 45 antique dealers and eight appraisers will be featured, as well as seminars and great food.  Admission is FREE and all appraisals are $5 each. Great American Cleanup

Keep Greene Beautiful will be joining Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the country March 1- May 31 to observe the Great American Cleanup.  During this observance, everyone is encouraged to clean up litter from roads and creeks, remove graffiti, initiate beautification and community improvement projects, and plant trees and flowers.  Sponsorships at $250 are available.  Contact Jennifer Reynolds at 638-4111 or email kgb@greenecop.com to schedule a cleanup or for sponsorship information.

Legislative Luncheon

Annual Meeting Highlights

Logistics/Ted Rideout, GCP Business of the Year!  These awards were presented at the Partnership's Annual Meeting Thursday, February 7, at the General Morgan Inn.  More than 160 guests at the event applauded these winners, as well as three local businesses for maintaining continuous membership in the organization for more than 45 years:  Greeneville Insurance/Andrew Johnson Insurance & Investment Services, Greene County Fair Association and Marsh Petroleum.

Transition of Board Members

At the Annual Meeting, board members who had completed their terms and left the board at the end of 2012 were recognized.  They include:  Randy Rumbley, Brian Click, Bob Leonard, Bob Grubbs and Lisa Crum.  A welcome was extended to newly-elected board members:  Jason Brandon of Davy Crockett TA Travel Center, Cal Doty of DTR Tennessee, Mark Douthat, Jeff Hollett of John Deere Power Products, Watson Leonard of Leonard Associates, and Brett Purgason of Ron's Millwright Maintenance.  The Partnership thanks them for their time and commitment to the GCP.

Expansion & Groundbreaking!

More than 50 people attended Huf North America's groundbreaking January 31 in the Mt. Pleasant Industrial Park. State of Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Bill

Hagerty was in attendance to help announce a $20 million expansion of Huf's Greeneville facility and the creation of 100 new jobs.  The Partnership and the State of Tennessee have been working on this project for more than two years, developing incentive packages that helped Greeneville beat out another U.S. city that was considered for this expansion.

 

Commissioner Hagerty's Regional Visit

The Partnership hosted 55 regional economic developers and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Bill Hagerty for a Regional Roundtable January 31 at Tusculum College.  Hagerty and his staff have been traveling across the state to update the economic development community on new initiatives by the Haslam administration.  Hagerty and ECD assistant commissioner for International Affairs, Samar Ali, highlighted the TNTrade program and stressed the importance of this new international export strategy for Tennessee.

 

 

Tourism Update

Tourist Spending Increases In County

According to Dr. Steve Morse, an economist at the University of Tennessee, tourist spending in Greene County increased 10.5 percent from 2010 to 2011, compared to the statewide increase of only 8.6 percent.  That equates to $79.1 million in total tourist spending for our area, which results in each household paying $205 less in taxes each year.

Tourism and its Sports Council has been featured again in Sports Events magazine's annual "Planners to Watch" section in the January 2013 issue.  To view online, visit SportsEvents.com.  This is the second year in a row that the Sports Council has been recognized in this publication.
