Residential Holiday Lighting Contest

Keep Greene Beautiful's Annual Residential Holiday Lighting Contest, sponsored by Greeneville Light and Power System, will be held December 17-19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, difficulty, detail, visual impact and beauty. The community has been divided into six geographical areas for judging and the winner in each division will receive $50 cash. Entry forms are available at the Partnership and on our website under Keep Greene Beautiful. Deadline for entry is December 13.

Johnson Recognized For Achievements

More than 125 people attended a reception last Tuesday to honor 2012 NHRA National Champion Allen Johnson and his J&J Racing Team for their accomplishment. The Partnership commends Allen and his team for their achievement and the accolades they are bringing Greeneville and Greene County.

Tourism To Host Tennessee Association of Museums Officials

Tourism and Bob Cantler, general manager of the General Morgan Inn, will host officials from the Tennessee association of Museums December 10-11. The Association, better known as TAM, has expressed an interest, as a result of Tourism's new website, in hosting their 2014 statewide conference here. Seventy-five rooms will be needed and a total of more than 150 attendees are expected.

Media Promotion Planned For Tourism

The Tourism Department is planning a media promotion with its top attractions in the coming weeks. As a result of the new tourism website, inquiries for information on the area have increased significantly. To increase traffic to the website, Tourism will be creating a series of media releases that will be included on the website, as well as on the Facebook page, Discover Greeneville, TN/Now. Tammy Kinser has been working with the webmaster to increase traffic to the site and will be using this tactic, along with others, to get maximum exposure of the site.

National Trails Day Coming In 2013

Tourism has been meeting with representatives of its Trails Committee on a big project for 2013. On the first Saturday of June, communities nationwide celebrate National Trails Day. Tourism will be coordinating this event in conjunction with the Greeneville Hiking Club, the Forestry Service and many other organizations throughout the community. The celebration will include activities such as hiking, kayaking and biking. Volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. Contact tkinser@greenecop.com if interested.

Former Tourism Intern Heads To Orange Bowl For Great Opportunity!

Tusculum College student Aly Carrino is heading to the Orange Bowl! Ally was an intern in the Tourism Department during the summer and worked with the Sports Council on the NAIA Golf Championships. After working with Aly and realizing her potential, Tom Ferguson, who is a lifelong member of the Orange Bowl Committee, suggested she apply for the internship opportunity. In late October, Ally was notified that she had been selected from a pool of national candidates to participate in the December 25 to January 9 internship. The Partnership wishes Ally well in her journey!
