November 2:
Tony Crow Presentation - "It's Not Just About Me" 

Landair and John Deere Power Products invite all Partnership members, particularly those with safety departments, are encouraged to attend the "It's Not Just About Me" presentation by Tony Crow on Friday, November 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Niswonger Performing Arts Center.  Mr. Crow, who lost his vision in a hunting accident, will be addressing safety issues, both on and off the job.  Partnership members and their staffs are welcome to attend this free event.  Refreshments will be provided by the Greene County Safety Exchange and C&C Millwright Maintenance Company.  Call the Partnership, 638-4111, to make reservations.

 

 
November 8: 
Farm-City Banquet

Tickets at $15 are still available for the 24th Annual Farm-City Banquet, scheduled for Thursday, November 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center.  Motivational humorist Dr. Charles Petty will be the speaker for the evening.  Bryan Townsend, who was originally announced as the banquet speaker, passed away unexpectedly after the information was released.  Tickets can be purchased at the Partnership office, Farm Credit Mid-America and Greene County Farm Bureau.  Call Lori Collins at 638-4111 or email  gcp@greenecop.com for more information.

Membership Breakfast

Invitations have gone out for the November Membership Breakfast, scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, at 7:30 a.m. at Holston Home for Children.  The breakfast will be held at the Beacon School gym.  The cost is $3 with reservations, $8 without.  RSVP by calling 638-4111 or email gcp@greenecop.com.

Here Comes Santa Clause!

The Greeneville Christmas Parade will be held Sunday, December 2, at 2 p.m., and is being coordinated by the Greeneville Morning and Noon Exchange Clubs and the Greene County Partnership.  Those who wish to participate must fill out the registration forms and obtain permits which will allow them entrance to the staging area on the day of the parade.  Permits and registration forms are available at the Partnership, 115 Academy Street.  Deadline for registration is November 29.  For more information, call the Partnership, 638-4111, or email gcp@greenecop.com.

What's Up With Workers' Compensation Reform?

According to the Nashville Business Journal, Governor Haslam is still considering a range of recommendations and options for Workers' Compensation reform by the Department of Labor's consultants, the business community and opponents of large-scale reform.  An announcement of Haslam's intentions is expected prior to the January legislative session. Get Ready To Cheer And Dance!

The Tourism Department is teaming up with Tusculum College to host the Pioneer Challenge Cheer and Dance Competition on April 6, 2013, in Pioneer Arena.  Applications will be sent out to elementary, middle school, and high school teams, as well as to college teams across the southeast.  On the Friday night before the competition, a welcoming banquet will be held in honor of all participants to be followed by a fun "Welcoming Bash" and t-shirt exchange.   A committee has been formed and is scheduled to meet monthly to make plans and seek sponsorships.  If you or your business would like to sponsor this event, contact Tammy Kinser at tkinser@greenecop.com

Students To Cast Shadows Feb. 8

Registration forms have gone out to the high schools and Greene Technology Center inviting local students to job shadow on Friday, February 8, 2013.  This is an outstanding opportunity for students to observe typical work days in their fields of interest.  Job Shadowing is sponsored by Junior Achievement of Upper East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia in conjunction with the Partnership's Education & Workforce Development department.  If you are interested in hosting a student, please contact Kelly Burrell at 638-4111 or email kburrell@greenecop.com.

 

Community News

Help Those Less Fortunate

Gifts for Kids is in full swing at their new location on the Asheville Highway across from Walgreen's and on the hill above Advance Auto.  This year's wish list includes new and slightly used toys and bikes, batteries, coloring books, and activity books.  Volunteers of all ages are also needed, as well as monetary donations which may be mailed to: Gifts for Kids, P.O. Box 1672, Greeneville, TN 37744.  Site collection and work days are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Other times for special group volunteers can be scheduled.  Any business requesting a GFK collection box or seeking more information on becoming involved may call 636-8697(TOYS).
