The NEW DaVita Village Trust is Here!
|
DaVita Village Trust (DVT) is a new organization that brings together two prominent, kidney care non-profit organizations, Bridge of Life and The Kidney TRUST.
The combined efforts of our programs allow DVT to provide a full range of kidney care services including international medical missions that deliver dialysis treatment to patients who would otherwise not receive care and free-rapid screening programs to identify those who have signs of kidney impairment within the U.S. and abroad.

Chronic Kidney Disease Screening at ASD Healthcare
|
In celebration of World Kidney Day, DaVita Village Trust is partnering with ASD Healthcare in Frisco, TX to provide a free chronic kidney disease (CKD) screening and education event today for associates and their families.
"Kidney disease kills more people annually than prostate and breast cancer combined. It is a silent disease, but once it's detected it can be prevented and, in some cases, reversed. That's why it's so important to get screened," said William Venus, Vice President at ASD Healthcare. "ASD Healthcare is proud to support screening events like this because they raise awareness to our associates, friends and families that could save the life of a loved one."
We plan to provide between 300 and 400 CKD screenings through The Kidney TRUST program. Check out photos from today's event on The Kidney TRUST's Facebook page.

Thank you from Jamaica
DVT recently learned that our partner in Jamaica, University Hospital of the West Indies, was at risk of losing funding for dialysis supplies.
We sprang into action to find ways to provide the needed supplies. Medivators, a subsidiary of MarCor, donated 40 cases each of bicarb and acid for dialysis. And DaVita World Headquarters held a fundraiser whose proceeds will go towards the remaining supplies needed.
Pictured above are two of the children at the dialysis clinic who can now receive treatment thanks to the donations.

Winter Texas Expo
From January 21-22, as part of The Kidney TRUST program, DVT participated in the Winter Texas expo in McAllen, TX, for senior citizens with little or no healthcare. While there, DVT provided free CKD screenings for 381 people. Of those, 87 people were found to have stage 3 or higher chronic kidney disease and they were referred to a local clinic in McAllen. Each participant also received materials on ways to better protect their kidneys, promoting good kidney health.
Many of the participants have come to depend on this program being at the expo as many do not have insurance and this is their only resource for kidney care.

Dialysis Machines Arrive in Syria
Kidney disease is escalating in Syria mainly due to the loss of a healthcare infrastructure and patients unable to receive the necessary medications to treat diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses and hypertension.
In December, Bridge of Life partnered with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) to upgrade an existing dialysis clinic in Bab al-Hawa, a crossing point near the boarder of Turkey. Bridge of Life worked with SAMS to deliver 10 dialysis machines along with all of the critical supplies, helping to replace the worn out and overused equipment.
