ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR FIREWORKS THIS 4TH OF JULY

Please be aware that the Everest Metro Police Department (EMPD), and many Wausau Metro Area Law Enforcement Departments, will again be enforcing fireworks violations during this 4th of July Holiday period under a zero tolerance policy.  Staff has been instructed that barring some exigent circumstance, all officers and deputies shall issue citations for all fireworks violations they are called to. The general rule of thumb most people understand is that "If it flies or explodes, it is illegal", and that is usually applicable.  The fact that there are so many firework stores and stands legally selling fireworks prohibited by WI Statute (unless you have a permit), tends to mislead some people into thinking they are legal to possess and use since they are sold locally. For more information please visit the Wisconsin Department of Justice page on Fireworks Law Information that references statutory regulations and permits.
