WESTON MUNICIPAL CENTER CLOSED

The Weston Municipal Center will be closed on Friday, April 3. We will re-open on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 a.m.

 

GARBAGE ROUTES

Just a reminder that Advanced Disposal does NOT close for the Good Friday/Easter Holiday, and will be running their routes as normal this week and next week! Have a great Easter weekend!

SEWER UTILITY RATE INCREASE

On February 2, 2015, the Village of Weston Board of Trustees adopted new rates for the sewer utility, which became effective March 1, 2015.
 

Base charges have been increased ±5% and volume charges have increased 9.1% ($0.25 per 1,000 gallons) as compared to previous rates.

JOB OPENING
OFFICE ASSISTANT

The Village of Weston is currently accepting applications for a part-time Office Assistant. Must be able to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Must also be able to be flexible and occasionally work full days to cover office staff during paid time off. SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS

On Friday, March 13, 2015 the seasonal weight limits went into effect in the Village of Weston with a restriction of 8 tons gross vehicle weight (GVW) on the majority of the streets.

VILLAGE WIDE RUMMAGE SALE

The Village of Weston will be holding its annual Village Wide Rummage Sale on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2

To be included on the map where the Rummage Sales are located, please fill out the application by going to www.westonwi.gov/RummageSale.  If you would like to print a copy to mail or drop off, you can find a copy of the application at www.westonwi.gov/2015map. You may also pick up applications at the Weston Municipal Center at 5500 Schofield Avenue. Forms need to be submitted by April 23!

WESTON V-CHAT 
The Village of Weston has started creating informational videos called Weston V-Chat. During the next year we will be posting several short videos to communicate preferred procedures and practices for your services. Services like Spring and Fall Yard Materials Pick-up, the wheres and whys for snow removal process, proper yard maintenance, etc. Please view the video below.

EASTER 9 PIN TAP

Join Dale's Weston Lanes as they host their Easter 9 Pin Tap fundraiser on Saturday, April 4th to raise funds for the Weston Lanes Youth Program. Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. with an entry fee of $30 per bowler which includes 3 games, Dinner, and Free Beer from 5:00 p.m.  - 7:00 p.m. There will also be many prizes and raffles. Music by Brad Emanuel at 8:00 p.m.

Join the polka band Polish Connection and the country band Led West as they help raise money for the K-Tech Charities Foundation (benefiting Breast Cancer, St. Jude's, and Local Food Pantries).

 

The 5th Annual Polka Meets Country is being held Dale's Weston Lanes (5902 Schofield Ave - Weston) on Saturday, April 11th. Join The Alzheimer's Association as they host their annual Rhythm and Brews event on Friday, April 10th at the Central Wisconsin Convention & Expo Center (10101 Market St., Rothschild) starting at 7:00 p.m.
 

Beer tasting and lively music, over 100 Brews available, commemorative souvenir glass, appetizers and desserts, silent auction and 50/50 Raffle. Proceeds going to help provided care service, education, and research for those with Alzheimer's. Tickets $35 in advance ONLINE or $40 at the door. DANCING FOR THE PAWS

The Humane Society of Marathon County and Get Out & Dance present "Dancing For The Paws" on Saturday, April 11, at the Central Wisconsin Convention & Expo Center (10101 Market Street, Rothschild). Experience a fun filled evening where you can enjoy dinner (and cocktails if you choose!) before watching local celebrities and their professional dance partners compete for "the coveted mirror ball" trophy! Professional demonstrations, public dancing, and an opportunity to support your favorite dancer all add to this event. All proceeds from this event will directly support the homeless pets and programs of the Humane Society of Marathon County.

UNITED WAY'S 2-1-1

United Way's 2-1-1 is a dialing code for FREE confidential access to non-emergency health and human services information and referral. They are there to help answer questions and connect you to services 24 hours a day 7 days a week, whether you need information regarding financial assistant, unemployment, services for youth or elderly, or support groups (or a variety of other services.

INCOME TAX
PREPARATION ASSISTANCE

Do you need assistance filing your income taxes? In Marathon County there are programs available to provide free income tax preparation assistance for qualified taxpayers filing simple returns with no business ownership, rental property, or capital gains.

AARP Volunteer Tax-Aide
The AARP Volunteer Tax-Aide program offers tax preparation to low to moderate income taxpayers, by appointment only, with special consideration given to those ages 60 and older. Appointments are held at the UW-Extension offices at 212 River Drive each Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 8:00am to Noon, February 3 through April 8. To make an appointment, call United Way's 2-1-1 by dialing 2-1-1 or 715-848-2255 weekdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm, beginning January 15, 2015.

Super Tax Saturday
Super Tax Saturday will take place Saturday, February 14, 2015 between 8:00am and 4:00pm, by appointment only. Super Tax Saturday focuses on those who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
 

EITC is a tax credit for people who work but do not earn high incomes. Families may qualify for this credit if their income is less than $53,000. For a Super Tax Saturday appointment, call United Way's 2-1-1.
 

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Community volunteers and accounting students at UW-Marathon County will provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for taxpayers with income under $53,000.
 

The Center for Civic Engagement on the UW-Marathon County campus offers VITA assistance by appointment Tuesdays and Saturdays February 3 through April 11. Call 715-261-6104 for an appointment beginning January 15.
 

For more information on assistance with income taxes, call United Way's 2-1-1 or 715-848-2255 to speak with an Information Specialist, or go the the SCHEDULE for specific dates, times and locations.
