This Week in Weston

January 16, 2015

A Snapshot of What's Happening in Weston!
WESTON MUNICIPAL CENTER
OFFICES CLOSED

The Village of Weston Municipal Center offices will be closed to the public on January 19th (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and February 16th (Presidents Day).

Oh Monday, January 19th, Property Tax and Utility payments can be placed in the outside drop-box in front of the building (located by the mailbox).

CHRISTMAS TREE PICK UP

Christmas tree Advanced Disposal will be picking up Christmas Trees that are set out for disposal during the month of January. Trees should be cut so that they are no more than 4 feet in lengths, placed on their side, and within reasonable reach of Advanced Disposal's driver.  Trees will be collected on the regular garbage days, and we encourage residents to get their trees out for collection within the first few weeks of January, to guarantee that they will be picked up.

If you do not want to wait for Advanced Disposal's driver to pick up your tree, a few other options to consider are:

  • Delivering your tree directly to Advanced Disposal, during their office hours, and only during the month of January.
  • Delivering your tree directly to Marathon County Solid Waste, during their office hours, and year-round.

NEW ZONING CODE UPDATE
AND ZONING MAP

The Planning and Development Team has released the first draft of the Zoning Map for 2015 on the Village's website. The Planning Team welcomes you to review the map and the zoning code and give them your feedback using the feedback form provided on the website.

There is also a set of flashcards to help you better understand each zone and what land uses are compatible in each zone. The team looks forward to hearing from you soon.

PET LICENSE

PetData will be sending the 2015 pet license renewal notices directly to your mailbox this year. Pet owners will have several options for renewing the licenses, including by mail or online.  New pet owners or pet owners that did not receive a notice may also use the online licensing system.

This year, cat and dog licenses for Weston and Wausau will be the same shape and color.  Purchasing a license and attaching it to your pet's collar is one of the most important things that you can do as a responsible pet owner.  Displaying the current license tag on your pet's collar makes it easy for Animal Control officers and shelter employees to quickly locate the lost pet's owner information.  It just might be the fastest way to get your lost pet back home to the family!

For more information, you can visit their website at www.petdata.com or call toll-free at 1-866-220-5551.

ACE HARDWARE
2014 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Ace Hardware in Weston as they are beinghonored as the 2014 Business of the Year by the South Area Business Association (SABA)at their Annual Recognition Dinner on Thursday, January 15th.

Ace Hardware Weston spent 2014 working to better serve the surrounding community through a combination of self-improvement and outreach programs. Following a complete store reset, the building's pet department and garden center were extensively reworked and expanded upon to better serve the needs of their customers. A 1500 square foot storage facility was added to small engine department to help respond to the increasing interest and needs of the customers. Even the parking lot was reworked and renovated in order to accommodate the store's growing customer base and to utilize more efficient technologies (such as LED lighting).

Employees themselves found new ways to help the community, whether it was through customer-oriented programs like Helpful 201 Certification or through existing community support systems like Peyton's Promise (a local initiative which helps to support children and their families through food drives). Fittingly for a hardware store, Ace Hardware Weston also worked extensively with programs such as Habitat for Humanity and Randlin House that construct and renovate homes for those in need. Through fundraising, the store also helped contribute to the Children's Miracle Network.
