VILLAGE OF WESTON BOARD OF RERIEW
NOTICE OF MEETING TO ADJOURN TO LATER DATE

The Village of Weston Board of Review is schedule to meet on May 19, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Weston Municipal Center for the purpose of calling the Board of Review into Session. However, due to the fact that the assessment roll will not be completed at this time it is anticipated that the Board of Review will be adjourned to June 17, 2014 at 4:00pm. The 2014 assessment roll will be open for examination on June 10, 2014 at the Weston Municipal Center - 5500 Schofield Avenue - from 8:00am to Noon, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

WESTON WATER UTILITY
SPRING 2014 MAIN FLUSHING

The Village of Weston Water Utility will be flushing the water mains beginning Monday, April 28 thru Wednesday June 4, 2014. Water mains will be flushed between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM on these dates.

You may notice that your water has a reddish color or tint during or following the flushing. This discoloration should be eliminated shortly after you have run water through your own service line. If the discoloration persists, please contact our office.

Those with sensitive water needs should draw water before the hours of flushing to reduce the chance of discolored water. White laundry should not be washed while the mains are being flushed in your area. You may also notice a change in water pressure while hydrants are flushed in your area. Hydrants may be flushed on Fridays to keep up with the schedule.  You may notice a change in water pressure while hydrants are flushed in your area.

 SOUTH AREA FIRE DISTRICT
LIFE RUN

MAY 17TH

 

Join the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District (S.A.F.E.R) for their "Life Run" beginning at the Rib Mountain Fire Station (5901 Hummingbird Rd., Wausau) on Saturday, May 17th.

 

Registration for this 5K Run/Walk begins at 6:30am with the race starting at 8:00am. Cost is $25 with proceeds benefiting the Never Forgotten Honor Flight and The Salvation Army.

South Area Fire District Life Run Website

SWIMMING LESSONS SIGN-UP

Beginning Monday, April 21st, Weston residents can begin sign-up for Swim Lessons ($15) and on May 5th, non-residents can begin sign-up ($20). 

Lessons will run from 10am to 10:50am from June 16th through August 8th.

 

There are 3 sessions available:

Session 1: June 16th - 27th
Session 2: July 7th - July 18th
Session 3: July 28th - August 8th

VILLAGE OF WESTON SPRING BULK ITEM DROP-OFF AT ADVANCED DISPOSAL SERVICES

The annual Bulk-Item Drop-Off is scheduled to occur May 15th-May 17th, and will be held again at Advanced Disposal Services, located at 5509 Fuller Street.

 

The items that will be accepted include: Non-Metal Items, Furniture, Carpeting, Scrap Lumber, Mattresses, and Glass Windows. There is no charge to dispose of the above items for Town and Village Residents. Proof of Residency is Required. Advanced will allow you to dispose of other items for a fee. 

 

Time Details:

May 15th & 16th: 8:00am - 4:00pm 

May 17th: 8:00am - 2:00pm

LIGHT POLE FOR SALE
BIDS WANTED

The Village of Weston is accepting bids on a street light pole.

 

Description of Light Pole

The pole is 30 feet long, with a 12 inch X 12 inch square base. The diameter of the pole is 8 inches at the base and tapers to 4 inches at the top of the pole. The pole is made of aluminum.

 

The pole can be seen by appointment only (during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), by calling the Village Office at (715) 359-6114 and ask for Doug.

 

Please submit your sealed bid (Minimum Bid $125) with a notation on the outside of the envelope "Light Pole Bid", no later than 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 (at which time the sealed bids will be opened and read aloud), to:

                                    Attn: Public Works Department

                                    5500 Schofield Avenue

                                    Weston, WI 54476

 

Bidders must include their name, address, and daytime phone number. Bids will not be accepted via e-mail. This Pole will be sold, as is, to the highest bidder. Payment will only be acceptable in the form of cash or cashiers check (made payable to Village of Weston).

HOW TO BUILD A RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP

The Village of Weston Water Utility will be hosting a FREE workshop on "How to Build a Rain Barrel" on Saturday, May 17th.

 

During this workshop, a presentation on water conservation and efficiency will be given as well as a presentation giving you many ideas and some general step-by-step instructions on how to build that perfect rain barrel unique to your needs.  Village of Weston residents and Weston Water Utility customers attending will leave the workshop with a white 55-gallon barrel.

 

All Village of Weston residents who harvest rain water via a rain barrel (or rain garden), are eligible for the one-time storm water credit (provided you have not received that credit already).  The storm water credit is calculated out at 68% of your annual storm water bill (example: $48.00/year fee for a single-family home = $32.64 credit).

BIKE RODEO

 MAY 3RD

 

The Everest Area Optimist Club (along with other various sponsors) is hosting its annual Bike Rodeo on Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00AM - 1:00PM. This event will take place at the Weston Safety Building (5303 Mesker St., Weston)

 

The Bike Rodeo will be open for children through age 13 and trophies will be awarded in 7 age categories. Helmets, bicycle safety inspections, bike licenses, and use of the Mountain Bay Trial will be FREE to the first 325 entrants. There will also be door prizes, a bike auction, and refreshments.

Join Re-vi Design on Saturday, May 3rd from 10am to 2pm at Dales Weston Lanes Parking Lot for their 4th Annual Mulch-O-Rama!

Come support D.C. Everest/Wausau Blessings in a Backpack as they host their 2nd Annual "Girls Night Out" at the Wausau Country Club (208 Country Club Rd., Schofield).

 

The evening will feature live music by Chad Brecke, horse racing, hat making, photo booth, silent auction items, great food and much more...This program sends food home on the weekend with DC Everest and Wausau area children who may not receive the food they need on the weekends. RUN FOR HOSPICE

MAY 10TH

 

Families and friends can honor a loved one and support hospice care at the annual Run For Hospice fundraiser sponsored by the Fabiano Brothers, on Saturday, May 10th in Weston at 7205 Zinser St.

 

The event will feature a 5K or 10K Run/Walk with chip timing, and new for this year is a non-competitive level. There will also be a "Carnival Midway" with games for kids, bounce house, face painting, kids runs, food, beverages, music by Brad Emanuel, and raffles will be available during the event.

 

Registration for the run/walk is $25 per person on or before May 3, 2014, $30 from May 4-8 and $35 for same day registration.

Proceeds from this year's event will be used to assist in funding a community care room for patients with identified financial need at Aspirus Hospice House.

Cutie Pie Photo Studio in Weston (corner of Camp Phillips and Schofield Ave) is working with the Ronald McDonald House for the month of April to help families with seriously ill children who are hospitalized or in need of outpatient treatment, have a place to stay.  Cutie Pie Studio is having a "Cutest Cutie Pie" contest where people can vote for their favorite photo for $1 a vote. All proceeds will be going to the "Ronald McDonald House". So go to Cutie Pie Photo Studio and vote for your favorite photo and help those families in need.

 Thanks for the continued support from the Village of Weston Area Schools, Residents, Pick n Save, Abby Bank and Fantastic Sam's, for their tremendous effort in supporting Peyton's Promise to help the many needy families throughout the year. 

Peyton's Promise has also started an "Item of the Month" collection, in which April's item is Paper Products  (paper towel, toilet paper, and tissue). These can be dropped off at the Village of Weston Municipal Center (between 7:30 and 5:00), Pick n Save, Fantastic Sam's, Community Presbyterian Church, or Abby Bank.
