 As of 7:30 P.M. on Friday, February 14, Weston Municipal Utilities issued a system wide advisory to continuously run water to prevent water service lateral freeze-ups. This advisory remains in effect until further notice. Even though warmer temperatures are expected in the coming weeks, frost remains underground. For more information or updates on the  situation, please refer to the Village's website as well as for the FAQ's regarding water service laterals and water service lateral freeze-ups. 2014 DOG & CAT LICENSING DEADLINE APPROACHING
|
|
Just a reminder that 2014 Dog and Cat Licensing must be obtained through PetData directly before April 1, 2014 to avoid higher licensing fees and fines. Licenses can no longer be purchased at the Weston Municipal Center.
If you licensed your pet in 2013, PetData will be sending (or have sent) your 2014 pet license renewal notice directly to your mailbox. Pet owners will have several option s for renewing, including by Mail or Online. New pet owners, or pet owners that did not receive a notice, may also use the online licensing system.
As reminder, per Chapter 10 of the Village of Weston's Municipal Code requires that all cats and dogs must be licensed by the time they become four (4) months of age or within 30 days of an owner obtaining the animal. Late license fees will be charged for those failing to obtain a license by April 1 of each year or within 30 days of taking ownership of the animal. A fine of $155.50 may be imposed for failure to have your dog and/or cat licensed and vaccinated.

PLAN COMMISSION - VACANT POSITION
|
|
The Village of Weston is looking for a Weston resident to fill a vacancy on the Village's Plan Commission Committee. The committee meets the 2nd Monday of the month (with some additional special meetings), and the meetings start at 6:00 p.m., and generally run 1 to 2 hours. Citizen Committee members earn a $40 stipend per attended meeting (paid out at the end of the year). THE STORE GAS STATION & CONVENIENCE STORE & SUBWAY - SITE PLAN APPROVED
|

The Village Plan Commission approved the site plan for the new 5,000 sq ft The Store Gas Station & convenience store and Subway restaurant at 6606 County Road J, the location of the old Fish Tank bar, at their meeting this past Monday night. This new development by Schierl Companies, will feature a drive thru Subway, the first of its kind in the area, which will offer a menu board where customers can order their sandwiches from the convenience of their vehicles and pick them up at the drive-up window. Plans are to begin construction of this new development in May!

Join the D.C. Everest High School Fishing Team as they host their 5th Annual Fish University on Friday, March 21st from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the D. C. Everest Senior High School (6400 Alderson St., Weston). This event will feature 2 free seminars: "Catch the Biggest Musky of Your Life" by Musky Hunter Magazine's own Steve Heiting and "Multi-Species Made Easy" by two of the Midwest's very best fishing guides, Rob Manthei and Captain Brett Jolly! In addition, there will be concessions including Godfather's pizza, a poolside lure demonstration, and a HUGE raffle and silent auction including rods from St. Croix, Elk River and Berkley and lures from Mepps, Mister Twister, Joe Bucher Outdoors, Bondy Bait, Tyrant, Ghost Tails, Reef Runner, Drifter tackle and more! 100% of the proceeds going to the D. C. Everest High School Fishing Team.

Join the Wausau Area High School Leadership Program as they help raise money for Habitat for Humanity in the 3rd Annual Freeze Your Buns Run.
This 5k Run/Walk will be starting and ending at Kennedy Park in Weston on Saturday, April 6th with registration at 8:15am and the race starting at 9:00am.

The Humane Society of Marathon County and Get Out & Dance present "Dancing For The Paws" on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Patriot Center (10101 Market Street, Rothschild). Experience a fun filled evening where you can enjoy dinner (and cocktails if you choose!) before watching local celebrities and their professional dance partners compete for "the coveted mirror ball" trophy! Professional demonstrations, public dancing, a silent auction and an opportunity to support your favorite dancer all add to this event. All proceeds from this event will directly support the homeless pets and programs of the Humane Society of Marathon County.

HOME COMPOSTING WORKSHOP

Join the Marathon County Solid Waste and Recycling Connections Corporation as they present a Home Composting Workshop on Tuesday, April 22nd (Earth Day) from 6-7:30pm, and on Saturday, April 26th from 10-11:30am.
There will be an educational presentation given in the Village of Weston Board Room (5500 Schofield Ave), followed by a hands-on demonstration outside, so please dress appropriately (if we are experiencing wet-inclement weather, the hands-on demonstration will take place in the Board Room as well). Compost Bins and Kitchen Pails will also be available for purchase, following each workshop.
Cost: $5.00 (per household - limit to 2 per household)

Thanks for the continued support from the Village of Weston Area Schools, Residents, Pick n Save, Abby Bank and Fantastic Sam's, for their tremendous effort in supporting Peyton's Promise to help the many needy families throughout the year.
Peyton's Promise has also started an "Item of the Month" collection, in which March's items are 100% Fruit Juice & Juice Boxes. These can be dropped off at the Village of Weston Municipal Center (between 7:30 and 5:00), Pick n Save, Fantastic Sam's, Community Presbyterian Church, or Abby Bank.

"CUTEST CUTIE PIE" PHOTO CONTEST

Cutie Pie Photo Studio in Weston (corner of Camp Phillips and Schofield Ave) is working with St. Baldrick's Foundation for the month of March to help in the research of finding a cure for childhood cancers. Cutie Pie Studio is having a "Cutest Cutie Pie" contest where people can vote for their favorite photo for $1 a vote. All proceeds will be going to "St. Baldrick's Foundation". So go to Cutie Pie Photo Studio and vote for your favorite photo and help improve the quality of life of these cancer patients.
