A Snapshot of What's Happening in Weston!
INTRODUCING SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING

As of January 1, 2014 the Village of Weston and Town of Weston began implementation of a Single-Stream Recycling collection program.

The 95-gallon cart that was delivered to every household in the Village of Weston & the Town of Weston (single-family up to 4 unity apartments) is the new recycling cart. This cart is ONLY for recyclable items (plastic, glass, aluminum, tin, metal, mixed paper and cardboard). Cascade Carts will be delivering carts through Saturday, January 4th. If you have not received yours by Monday, please call Valerie Parker at 715-241-2607.

This 95-gallon recycling cart will appear the same as your refuse (garbage) cart, EXCEPT that the recycling cart has a bright yellow lid with the recycling symbol, along with some simple recycling instructions, printed on the lid.

The In's & Out's of Weston's New Single Stream Recycling Program
The In's & Out's of Weston's New Single Stream Recycling Program

What are the advantages to Single-Stream Recycling?

  • Easy for the Customer
  • Cleaner for the Neighborhood
  • The carts are easy to use
  • The carts hold a lot
  • Safer for workers
  • Promotes Recycling
  • Communities Love It!!

PLUS... with more people recycling, we save on landfill costs, which will help reduced the costs to the Taxpayer!

NOW WHAT TO DO WITH THOSE OLD RECYCLING BINS

  • Use them to neatly store away seasonal house hold items
  • Give them to a neighbor who would have a use for them
  • Donate them to Good Will (www.goodwillncw.org)
  • Donate them to Peyton's Promise (www.peytonspromise.org)
  • Sell or give away your container through Craig's List (www.wausau.craigslist.org)
  • If your bins are in bad shape and you simply want to dispose of them, you can take them directly to Advance Disposal Services. They can be placed in the plastics recycling bin at the Recycling Center at 5509 Fuller Street.

FINALLY...you're Refuse and Recycling collection dates and times will remain the same as they have been in the past.

Begin using them the week of January 6th on your garbage day. The best placement for your refuse and recycling carts is at either side of your driveway. Here are pictures of where to and where not to place your carts. Improper placement could result in damage to your cart or mailbox from the garbage and recycling trucks claw.

If you still have questions, please feel free to visit our Refuse and Recycling webpage.

FIRE & EMS SERVICES NOW PROVIDED BY S.A.F.E.R

As of January 1, 2014, Fire and EMS Services are now provided by S.A.F.E.R. Please like the new South Area Fire and Emergency Response District Facebook page to keep up on SAFER related news. The Weston Fire Rescue page will no longer be used to provide Fire, EMS and weather related alerts.

CHRISTMAS TREES PICKED UP NOW THROUGH JANUARY 10TH!
Christmas tree

Advanced Disposal Services (Veolia) will be picking up Christmas trees with your garbage collection now through January 10, 2014. Please cut trees into 4 foot sections and leave next to your trash container at the curb. Do not stand them up in the snow bank as they will freeze and will make it difficult to be removed.

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PLANNING FOR THE VILLAGE'S FUTURE!

2014 PET LICENSING INFORMATION!
dog and cat PetData has sent the 2014 pet license renewal notices directly to your mailbox this year.  Pet owners will have several options for renewing the licenses, including by mail or online.  New pet owners or pet owners that did not receive a notice may also use the online licensing system.

This year, cat and dog licenses for Weston and Wausau will be the same shape and color.  Purchasing a license and attaching it to your pet's collar is one of the most important things that you can do as a responsible pet owner.  Displaying the current license tag on your pet's collar makes it easy for Animal Control officers and shelter employees to quickly locate the lost pet's owner information.  It just might be the fastest way to get your lost pet back home to the family!

For more information, you can visit their website at www.petdata.com or call toll-free at 1-866-220-5551.

SNOW REMINDERS

Winter is here and we want to take this time to remind you of a few snow related items.

According to Sec. 70.112 of the Village Code of Ordinances, snow and ice removal from sidewalks is the responsibility of property owners of a building or lot within 48 hours after snow fall ceases. Failure to remove snow or ice within the allotted time specified in the ordinance will result in issuance of a citation for ordinance violation which carries with it a $75 fine and, the Village without further notice may clear the said sidewalk at the expense of the property owner.

It is illegal to plow snow from your driveway, sidewalk, or parking lot onto any roadway. It is also against the Village of Weston Ordinance to plow snow across the street, as both of these instances can create a safety hazard.

On garbage pickup day, please place your trash container in your driveway and/or off the street & as far away from your mailbox as possible. This will allow the plow operators to clear the snow without hitting it as plow operators are mandated to not cross the center line of the street. The garbage truck will not have a problem reaching your container from this location.

Please remember to follow the Village's winter parking restrictions so our plows can get through. All vehicles must be off the roadway between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and any other hours deemed necessary to allow for proper snow removal.

And most important of all, please try to stay at least 200 feet behind a snowplow and/or salt truck when the driver is operating it. He'll make frequent stops and starts and may need to back up. We don't want anyone to get hurt.
