HOLIDAY GARBAGE/RECYCLING & CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP!
Advanced Disposal Services (Veolia) will be closed on New Year's Day (1/1/2014). All garbage pickup routes except Monday and Tuesday routes will be one day behind. Wednesday's route will be picked up on Thursday, Thursday on Friday and Friday on Saturday.

Christmas trees will be picked up with your garbage collection now through January 10, 2014. Please cut trees into 4 foot sections and leave next to your trash container at the curb. Do not stand them up in the snow bank as they will freeze and will make it difficult to be removed.

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN PLANNING FOR THE VILLAGE'S FUTURE!
The Village of Weston is updating its Comprehensive Plan, which guides the growth and development of our community. To help us gauge community priorities as we begin the Plan update, please take 10 to 15 minutes to complete and return a survey by February 3, 2014. The Village encourages you to take the survey over the internet at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/westonplan2013. Otherwise, you can get a survey by visiting the Village Municipal Center at 5500 Schofield Ave., by calling (715) 241-2607, or by emailing vparker@westonwi.gov. If you want to stay informed on the Comprehensive Plan update or have questions concerning the Comprehensive Plan update, please visit http://wi-weston.civicplus.com/329/Comprehensive-Plan-Update-2013-2016, or contact Jennifer Higgins, Director of Planning & Development at (715) 241-2638 or jhiggins@westonwi.gov. Thank you!

NEW IN 2014: SINGLE-STREAM RECYCLING SERVICE!
Please take note that the Village of Weston Board of Trustees, at its July 1, 2013, Board Meeting, approved changing the 2014 recycling services from dual-streamed recycling to single-stream recycling (which was a recommendation from the Refuse and Recycling Task Force Committee). Single-stream recycling allows you to co-mingle and place all recyclables (plastic, glass, aluminum, tin, metal, mixed paper, and cardboard) into one single cart.
During the week of December 30, 2013, every household (single-family up to 4-unit apartments), within the Village and Town of Weston, will receive a 95-gallon recycling cart. Cascade Carts will be dropping the new recycling carts at the end of the driveway of each residence (single family through 4 unit apartments). This 95-gallon recycling cart will appear the same as your refuse cart, except that the recycling cart will have a bright yellow lid with the recycling symbol, along with some simple recycling instructions, printed on the lid. These carts will be emptied in the same manner as your refuse (garbage) carts, though recyclables will continue to be picked up by a separate recycling truck. Refuse and Recycling collection dates and times will remain the same as they have been in the past.
As of January 6, 2014, use of the 95-gallon recycling cart will be mandatory. Recyclables will not be picked up if they are set out in anything other than the 95-gallon recycling cart that is provided to you by Advanced Disposal.
To learn more about the changes in our services, please visit the Village's website: www.westonwi.gov, or you can contact Valerie Parker via e-mail at vparker@westonwi.gov, or call her at 715-241-2607. If your cart needs to be replaced, please contact Advanced Disposal directly at 715-359-6637.

2014 PET LICENSING INFORMATION!
PetData will be sending the 2014 pet license renewal notices directly to your mailbox this year. Pet owners will have several options for renewing the licenses, including by mail or online. New pet owners or pet owners that did not receive a notice may also use the online licensing system.
This year, cat and dog licenses for Weston and Wausau will be the same shape and color. Purchasing a license and attaching it to your pet's collar is one of the most important things that you can do as a responsible pet owner. Displaying the current license tag on your pet's collar makes it easy for Animal Control officers and shelter employees to quickly locate the lost pet's owner information. It just might be the fastest way to get your lost pet back home to the family!
For more information, you can visit their website at www.petdata.com or call toll-free at 1-866-220-5551.

SNOW REMINDERS
Winter is here and we want to take this time to remind you of a few snow related items.
According to Sec. 70.112 of the Village Code of Ordinances, snow and ice removal from sidewalks is the responsibility of property owners of a building or lot within 48 hours after snow fall ceases. Failure to remove snow or ice within the allotted time specified in the ordinance will result in issuance of a citation for ordinance violation which carries with it a $75 fine and, the Village without further notice may clear the said sidewalk at the expense of the property owner.
It is illegal to plow snow from your driveway, sidewalk, or parking lot onto any roadway. It is also against the Village of Weston Ordinance to plow snow across the street, as both of these instances can create a safety hazard.
On garbage pickup day, please place your trash container in your driveway and/or off the street & as far away from your mailbox as possible. This will allow the plow operators to clear the snow without hitting it as plow operators are mandated to not cross the center line of the street. The garbage truck will not have a problem reaching your container from this location.
Please remember to follow the Village's winter parking restrictions so our plows can get through. All vehicles must be off the roadway between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and any other hours deemed necessary to allow for proper snow removal.
And most important of all, please try to stay at least 200 feet behind a snowplow and/or salt truck when the driver is operating it. He'll make frequent stops and starts and may need to back up. We don't want anyone to get hurt.
