NEW WEBSITE PROVIDES ENHANCED SERVICES FOR RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES AND VISITORS

Village of Weston, WI - On October 17, 2013, Weston officially launched its new website at www.westonwi.gov. The new site reflects the personality of Weston while incorporating a number of new and improved tools designed to help residents and visitors quickly locate the information and services they need.

The homepage is easy to navigate and breaks down information for residents, businesses and visitors. The new search feature directs people to specific information while interactive online forms allow citizens to complete Village business without ever leaving home. Reporting a concern or requesting information from the Village will be easier than ever. Visitors are able to simply click the Report a Concern button at the middle of the home page to access an online submission form to report road repair issues, code violations, ask a question, etc.

"We are very excited about offering a new, more interactive web interface to our residents, businesses, and visitors," said Technology Services Director Nate Crowe. "Our new website is consistent with our continued efforts to provide innovative solutions to maintain service levels that our taxpayers expect, while not bearing the financial burden of extra staff."

The new Alert Center and News Flash features allow the Village to provide critical information to residents instantly. In addition, a new Notify Me option allows people to sign up to receive alerts via email or mobile phone text message about special events, contract bids, public meetings, job opportunities, agenda postings and a variety of other Village activities.

Most of the enhanced features and tools are available on the new website today, however, additional functions are currently being developed and are planned to be released in the near future. Following are a list of some of the enhanced features of the new Village website:

  • Dynamic Components - Events, calendar, FAQs, Community News
  • Document Center - The Village of Weston believes in open government and we will be working on making many documents viewable to the public.
  • Alerts Center - Currently the Village is set up to alert you via e-mail or text message of burning bans and weather emergencies.
  • Site Search
  • Notify Me - sign up to be notified via e-mail and/or sms text messaging about community updates, road construction, website updates, agenda postings, and mush more as we continue to add more.
  • Forms - All the forms you may need for Village related business are available online as PDFs, but we hope to be converting many of those to a more interactive version in the future.
  • Facility Rental - Soon you be able to rent Village park facilities right from the website.
  • Request Tracker - Follow the process of a request or complaint right through our "Report A Concern" module.
  • Bid Postings - searchable by category, title, or closing date and by open, close, canceled or awarded.
  • Business/Resource Directory - provides site visitors with information about and links to organizations and services within our community.
  • Staff Directory - provides detailed contact information for your staff and various offices all in one place.
  • Social Networking - Links on every page to our Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and LinkedIn Pages.
  • E-Pay - In the near future the Village plans in being equipped to handle on-line payments. Make sure to sign up under Notify Me to find out when this happens.
  • Send Us Your News - Want to get your event on our calendars and the Weston Wire? Follow the link under News on the home page and we'll do our best to pass it on.

The new website also creates more cost-effective and efficient public services by decentralizing content management. Weston staff can maintain every aspect of the website including pages, online forms, news announcements and a searchable archive center.

The site was designed by a team from the Village of Weston and website experts at CivicPlus. CivicPlus has designed over 1,000 local government websites serving 37.5 million citizens throughout North America. The company has earned the Center for Digital Government's Best Fit Integrator Award for delivering extraordinary digital solutions to public technology projects. Over the past two years, CivicPlus clients have won more than 200 website awards. To view Weston's new website, visit www.westonwi.gov.

This site is a work in progress as it was quite an undertaking. We are continuing to improve it every day, and we'd love your feedback. Just go to the request tracker at http://westonwisconsin.org/requesttracker.aspx and submit your suggestions.

FALL YARD MATERIALS PICK-UP

This year's Fall Yard Materials Pick-up started on Monday, October 14, 2013. Residents are to place un-bagged leaves, thatch, grass, clippings, pine needles and brush less than six (6) inches in diameter, on the road shoulder or at the curb.  If you have curb and gutter please place yard waste in near the curbline. Please keep piles away from storm sewer inlets to minimize the chances of causing drainage problems.  Also keep piles away from power poles, mailboxes, landscaping, fire hydrants, or anything else that may impede the pickup process. Brush is to be kept SEPARATE from yard material and placed at roadside with stump ends of limbs placed in same direction, parallel to road. Brush Pickup is a separate operation and may not occur at the same time as leaf pickup. If yard material cannot be reached by the Village's machines it will then be the responsibility of the resident to dispose of the yard material.

The leaf/yard waste operation will progress through the Village following the sequence of the weekly garbage pick-up routes; i.e., Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd, etc.  However, due to the volume of material it normally takes more than one day to pick up material in most areas.  The staff predicts that the first pass through the Village will be completed on Wednesday, October 23rd.  However, please still plan to have your materials out on the day before your normal refuse pickup day.   We will provide updates of the progress of the operation and the start of the final pass through the Village.

After the roadside collection has been completed, leaves and all pre-mentioned items can be brought to the Village's yard waste site (free of charge) located at 8200 Ryan Street (1/4 mile south of Weston Avenue on the west side). When bringing items to the yard material site, please remove leaves from bags and dispose of the bags in the provided container.

S.A.F.E.R NEWS RELEASE - S.A.F.E.R DISTRICT TO START ACCEPTING POSITION APPLICATIONS

Weston, WI - The new SAFER District, along with the Village of Weston, has launched a new software system for their hiring process. Beginning Friday, October 18th interested candidates can apply for current vacancies or sign up for new openings that become available at http://www.westonwi.gov/jobs.

The Village of Weston and the SAFER District partnered with NEOGOV, the nation's largest cloud software for HR in government and education. Using this technology, HR and department managers can access online records to expedite hiring and provide greater accountability when selecting new employees.

This new software streamlines the job search and application process for job seekers. Instead of applying for multiple job openings at once, candidates can submit multiple applications all electronically.

The new system also allows hiring managers to more effectively create minimum qualifications to sort through a pool of applicants. With the new system, administrative work and technical maintenance costs are reduced as this workload is handled by the NEOGOV system.

The Village of Weston and the SAFER District now join over 1000 organizations across the nation which have moved into cutting edge online technology for personnel management.
