$2,500 RAISED IN WESTON FOR DOMINICAN FOOD PROGRAM
|
|
An annual collection of spare change at the Weston Regional Medical Center for children and families in the Dominican Republic raised a record amount of $2,500 this past year.
Staff members from Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital, Ministry Health Care, Ministry Medical Group, The Diagnostic & Treatment Center and Marshfield Clinic Weston Center along with visitors to the Weston Campus take part in the "Spare Change to Sponsor a Child" collections located in the Bread Basket restaurant of Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital.
For the second straight year, staff and visitor contributions were matched by a generous anonymous donor to the Foundation of Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital. The donor stepped forward a few weeks ago with the challenge to match all funds collected through September 13, which was the kick-off of Ministry Health Care's Mission and Values Week.
The funds are donated to The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in support of their various programs for children and families in the Caribbean.
The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother have been present with multiple programs in the Caribbean since 1960. Today they are serving in the Dominican Republic and on the islands of St. Lucia, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago.
"We are grateful for our associates and visitors who once again made this program a success," said Dawn Kluever, of Ministry Saint Clare's food and nutrition services who helped coordinate the collection effort.
This year, the money has been earmarked to support the efforts of Sister Corita Ortiz and her food package program in "Hoyo de Bartola," one of the poorest neighborhoods in Santiago.
Her food packages provide basics like rice, beans and spaghetti to families who live in this area along the river.
"The Sisters have been working for several years to help people in this area," said Sister Sharee Hurtgen, patient advocate at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital and a member of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother. "We are grateful to our staff and visitors in Weston and know their support will allow Sister Corita to provide additional support to these families in need."
The Spare Change to Sponsor a Child program has collected more than $8,000 to support the Sisters efforts in the Caribbean.

WESTON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER PARKING LOT REPLACEMENT PROJECT CONTINUES
|
|
A significant project to replace the parking lots of the Weston Regional Medical Center continues as crews continue work on the Outpatient Services Lot #2 and Cancer Care Lot #6.
Both lots are closed to patients and visitors while replacement work is completed.
Patients and visitors are asked to allow for extra time when traveling to their appointments or visiting the campus.
Alternative parking for Outpatient Services Lot #2 includes:
- Women's Center and Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients and visitors should use Parking Lot #1 (Marshfield Clinic Weston Center).
- Heart Lung and Vascular Services and Radiology patients and visitors should use Parking Lot #4 (Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital).
Alternative parking for Cancer Care Lot #6 includes:
- Cancer Care patients and visitors should use Parking Lot #1 (Marshfield Clinic Weston Center). Reserved parking for Cancer Care patients has been designated by signage on the south end of the lot closest to Entrance #1.
The project is to repair certain defects in the current parking lot surface that became apparent after initial construction. Funding for the repairs was made possible as a result of a collaborated arrangement with the contractor, and the repairs will be completed in phases to minimize inconvenience to patients and visitors.
The latest information on the project as well as a campus map is available on the Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital Web Site at: http://ministryhealth.org/SCH/home.nws
Weather permitting; the project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.

THREE MINISTRY MEDICAL GROUP CLINICS RECEIVE NATIONAL MEDICAL HOME RECONGNITION
|
|
Ministry Medical Group clinics in Weston, Rib Mountain and Merrill have received national recognition for their medical home models by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). They have received Level 3 Physician Practice Connections® - Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition (PPC-PCMH™).
NCQA recognizes primary care practices that function as patient-centered medical homes, a model of care where each patient is at the center of his/her care and has an ongoing relationship with a personal provider who leads a team that takes collective responsibility for patient care.
Ministry Medical Group launched three medical home pilot sites in 2011. Since then, other clinics have begun transitioning to medical homes. Ministry's medical home teams consist of physicians partnered with advanced practice providers (APNPs or PAs), RN case managers who coordinate chronic disease management, patient service representatives, health care associates (CMAs or LPNs) and a behavioral health specialist.
"This certification is a significant milestone for us," said Jennifer Rhea, Director of Clinic Operations for Ministry Medical Group. "Lots of hard work has been accomplished by our staff at each of our sites. Our common goal is to not only meet the requirements for certification but to exceed them as a part of our ongoing work in making the health care experience the best it can be for our patients."
Some of the areas PPC-PCMH measure include patient tracking and registry functions; access and communication; care management; patient self-management support; electronic prescribing; test tracking; referral tracking; performance reporting and improvement, and advanced electronic communications.
NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans, managed behavioral health care organizations, preferred provider organizations, new health plans, physician organizations, credentials verification organizations, disease management programs and other health-related programs. There are nine PPC® standards, including 10 must-pass elements, which can result in one of three levels of recognition. Level three represents the highest level of recognition.
