A Snapshot of What's Happening in Weston!
 GET THOSE PETS LICENSED
 null

The Village of Weston has made it even easier for pet owners to license their pets by partnering with the City of Wausau and PetData, the nation's only full-service animal licensing provider, to improve the process of licensing pets.

If you licensed your pet in 2012, you should have received a 2013 pet license renewal notice directly to your mailbox. We appreciate those who have registered their pet on time. Earlier this year multiple reminders were sent to those who have failed to register their pets. Now it has come to the point where the Village has to issue citations for those who have yet to respond to our request for compliance. If you no longer have your pet, please stop in to the Municipal Center to let us know.

Per Village Ordinance, area veterinarians are required to report all pets that are vaccinated; this list will be used to ensure that all the pets that reside in the Village of Weston are licensed to ensure the public's safety.

As reminder, Chapter 10 of the Village of Weston's Municipal Code requires that all cats and dogs must be licensed by the time they become four (4) months of age or within 30 days of an owner obtaining the animal. Late license fees will be charged for those failing to obtain a license by April 1 of each year or within 30 days of taking ownership of the animal. If you have yet to license your pet, please come to the Village of Weston Municipal Center as soon as possible, to avoid the issuance of a citation.

DRIVE-THRU COFFEE COMING TO WESTON - DUNKIN DONUTS
 null
Later this year, Weston residents will finally get their wish for a coffee shop in Weston! Lokre Cos., announced Thursday, their shopping center, Weston Center, on the corner of Schofield Avenue and Camp Phillips Road,  will soon be home to a Dunkin' Donuts.

Over the last month, Lokre Cos. has been working with Village Planning & Development staff to get the new building and site plans together for Village approvals in October. Plans are to build a new, 3-tenant, 6,500 square foot building, in front of the existing shopping center that is currently home to Shanghai Grill, Fantastic Sam's and the similarly much awaited Jimmy Johns.

A drive-thru coffee shop has been the #1 request by Village residents for a number of years and we look forward to Dunkin' Donuts joining our Weston business community. Once Village approvals are received the developer plans to begin construction immediately with a target date to open by early 2014.
1ST ANNUAL IRISHFEST - CENTRAL WI - HUGE SUCCESS!

The Village's 1st Irish Fest, held last Saturday, September 7th in the Basil in Weston parking lot was a huge success! Over 100 people joined in on the morning bike rides. There was a large turnout for the evening festivities which included bagpipers, Irish Step Dancers and three bands. All proceeds from beer sales went to support the Wausau-Kiwanis, a nonprofit organization in the Wausau area.

Thank you so much to Basil, the Irish Fest Committee and the corporate sponsors of the event for putting on such a wonderful event for the community. It really did turn out to be a day of good music, food and family fun! We look forward to next year's event!

VILLAGE ADOPTS NEW DANGEROUS ANIMAL ORDINANCE
nullThe Village Board recently approved a new Dangerous Animal Ordinance (Chapter 10, Article II) to replace the existing Dangerous Dog ordinance the Village previously had in place. The new ordinance specifically addresses prohibited dangerous animals. This amendment means that no person may bring into or keep within the village limits, any animal that is determined to be a "prohibited dangerous animal." Additionally, the amendment gives authority to the chief of police or the chief's designee to declare if an animal is dangerous. The new ordinance is similar to one recently adopted by the City of Wausau. The full text of the ordinance can be found online at the above link.
