WESTON WATER JUDGED BEST IN AREA
|
|
The 2013 State Fair featured a water taste test sponsored by the Wisconsin Water Association (WWA). This was the 27th annual taste test, but the first time that WWA has held the contest at the Wisconsin State Fair.
A panel of 5 judges rated water samples on a 100 point scale in areas of odor, taste, clarity, and color. Weston's water earned 467 out of a possible 500 points from the judges! Entries into the competition were first judged for a "winner" in each of the 5 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regions. Weston is in the West Central Region. The 5 regional "winners" were then judged against each other.
The overall winner this year was Madison, who earns the right to be Wisconsin's entrant in the 2014 national competition at the annual meeting of the American Water Works Association in Boston, MA.
While Weston Municipalities did not make the finals, we were judged 2nd in our region to Arcadia (who came in 5th overall). Other entrants from the West Central Region were La Crosse, Rib Mountain, and Wausau.
In this contest though, there are no losers. The contest is a fun way to showcase our nation's good fortune in having safe, clean, water at the turn of a tap. It also serves to highlight the product of the dedication and hard work of the professionals that are a part of delivering that water to their customers.
The State Fair venue included water trivia during the judges' evaluation to add a little entertainment and educational "flavor" to the event. The event will take place at the state fair again in 2014.

PUBLIC FIRE PROTECTION FEE
|
|
In an effort to keep the property tax rate steady, the Village has determined that it can no longer afford to subsidize the Weston Water Utility's public fire protection charges, which are those costs which are accrued by the water utility to furnish water for fighting fires. Instead of subsidizing this expense with property tax dollars, the Village is returning these charges, in their entirety, back to the water utility. Further information regarding the charge and how it affects your water utility bill can be found by clicking HERE. You may also contact the Village at 715-359-3001.

WESTON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER PARKING LOT REPLACEMENT PROJECT MOVES TO PHASE THREE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 5TH
|
|
A significant project to replace the parking lots of the Weston Regional Medical Center continues as on Monday, August 5, crews will begin work on Parking Lot #3 which provides access to the Ministry Medical Building.
Patients and Visitors with Appointments for Ministry Medical Group's Weston Clinic and Occupational Medicine, The Diagnostic and Treatment Center Rehabilitation Services or Administration are asked to park in the Outpatient Services Lot #2. A temporary entrance on the West End of Lot #2 will provide the best access to the Ministry Medical Building.
The project is to repair certain defects in the current parking lot surface that became apparent after initial construction. Funding for the repairs was made possible as a result of a collaborated arrangement with the contractor, and the repairs will be completed in phases to minimize inconvenience to patients and visitors.
The latest information on the project is available on the Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital Web Site at: http://ministryhealth.org/SCH/home.nws
Weather permitting; the project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

WESTON FARMER'S MARKET NOW ACCEPTING DEBIT CARDS
|
|
The Village of Weston Farmer's Market has the ability to accept Debit Cards through a token program. Tokens will be in $5 increments and there will be a $1 service charge added to each separate transaction. These tokens can then be used at all of the individual vendors at the Market.
The Weston Farmers Market also continues to accept FoodShare (EBT) cards as a form of payment which was implemented last summer with the assistance of the Marathon County Health Department and the Healthy Eating Active Living Coalition of Marathon County. Please look for the sandwich board sign on Market days to purchase your tokens through the Debit and EBT programs.
"The service of allowing electronic forms of payment not only helps Marathon County residents access more local, fresh foods, but it also supports the vendors of the market," says Amanda Ostrowski, Public Health Educator with Marathon County Health Department.
The Weston Farmers Market is located next to the Weston Municipal Center at 5500 Schofield Avenue and is open on Tuesday's and Saturday's from 8 a.m. until produce is sold out through the end of October.
