In time for the 2014 holidays:
Christmas on the Danube (2nd. Release)
NETA and I are excited to announce a second feed for the Christmas hit--Christmas on the Danube. A companion to the hit European Christmas Markets (which will also be refed on Sat. Nov. 15, 2014 ),
Christmas on the Danube (XMDR)
is a true holiday treat that will fill your senses with warmth, touch your heart and provide your mind with geography and history!
Traveling the majestic Danube river as it passes through stunning European landscape, history and culture, Christmas on the Danube visits these cities of the Danube that are particularly spectacular at Christmas:
- Vienna, where Christmas markets spring to life among the city's grand buildings.
- Budapest, where locals celebrate ancient folk traditions.
- Salzburg, where music fills the air at Christmas Markets in Mozart's hometown.
- Oberndorf where the most famous of all Christmas songs "Silent Night" was composed and first performed.
- Other highlights include visits to the charming abbeys in Melk and Gottwieg, the Old Town of Passau and its huge Cathedral, and the charming Christmas Market of Bratislava.
Steeped in history, the Danube has connected cultures, heritages and musicians, artists, writers and architects for centuries. Fittingly, the Danube and its cities have a special sparkle at Christmas time. Grand music from the region's great composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and others make this a special episode.
With their Christmas markets filled with local crafts and food, and holiday lights and activities, a visit to the cities along the Danube at Christmas is a magical experience.
The narrator, Hans Timmer, as in European Christmas Markets, once again adds the perfect voice to the program with his lilting brogue.
Christmas on the Danube is produced by Barbara Cray of www.4mywanderlustproductions.com. It is distributed to public television stations by NETA. Funding is provided by AMA Waterways and local underwriting is permissible. (Reminder: there's a 40-minute Pledge version with Pledge-gifts available for European Christmas Markets. For information about the Pledge version please contact Barbara Cray, at craylaw@comcast.net).
Please let me know if you have questions. I'll continue to be in touch with you about your carriage plans during the next months. A fact sheet follows.
