LetterGreetings!

NJ Water WTTW National Productions and APT are pleased to announce the March 2013 release of Water Pressures, in time for World Water Day on March 22 and/or Earth Day on April 22. The documentary tells the story of a five-year partnership between villagers in water-scarce Rajasthan India and students at Northwestern University, whose campus is located  on one of the largest bodies of water in the U.S.--Lake Michigan.  It is narrated and hosted by actor Adrian Grenier.

Water Pressures brings to light an understanding of how profoundly water issues affect us all.  It cannot be overstated how central water is in our lives, and how Americans and other citizens of the world are recognizing that the water scarcity that exists in some regions of the world portends a global crisis.  The program presents young people and college students nationwide--people who are extremely sensitive to environmental concerns about droughts, pollution and the depleting water table--with knowledge and tools around water issues.

IBM's Creek Watch/Students for a Smarter Planet and the National Center for Media Engagement (NCME) are responsible for robust outreach support around Water Pressures.  Please see the fact sheet for ways your station can become involved and benefit from this extensive outreach.  In addition, Water Pressures is accompanied by a 36-page discussion guide, created by students and professors, available online for download: https://download.yousendit.com/TEhXWmd0Q1JqY3FjZDhUQw6 .

For example, the Water Pressures team is partnering with IBM's Creek Watch to involve US colleges and universities with monitoring such water issues as pollution in their local water.  The team is also partnering with NCME, IBM and presenting station WTTW to host a Webinar January 23, 2013, 2:00 PM ET. At this webinar, educational outreach will be unveiled that pairs screenings of Water Pressures on public TV stations with water actions, blogs and videos by students from local colleges. In addition, upcoming screenings are planned including in New York City and Washington DC

Executive producer for Water Pressures is Ann E Feldman. Host/narrator is actor Adrian Grenier. Fran Harth is VP, Program Development for WTTW.  The program is presented by WTTW National Productions and is distributed by APT (Exchange). It is underwritten by various organizations and individuals (a list is available from APT). Local underwriting is permissible.

Please contact me if you have questions. A fact sheet follows.

Very truly yours,

Regina

Outreach:

The Water Pressures team is partnering with IBM's Creek Watch/Students for a Smarter Planet and the National Center for Media Engagement (NCME) to involve US colleges and universities everywhere around water issues including monitoring pollution in their local water sources.

The team is also partnering with NCME, IBM and WTTW on a Webinar (January 23, 2013, 2 pm ET).  At the webinar, the team will present educational outreach plans that pairs screenings of Water Pressures on public TV stations with water actions, blogs and videos by students from local colleges.

HERE'S HOW STATIONS CAN GET INVOLVED:

Schedule your Water Pressures broadcast with enough lead time for outreach, engagement and promotion focused upon:

* Engaging students with your station - Collaborate with local colleges and universities to arrange screenings of Water Pressures.

* Setting up a local water action - Partner with area colleges on a local water action. For example, consider a cleanup day at a local river or a scientific study of water pollution from storm water.

* Having students create videos and blogs - Students document the water actions through 2-minute videos and 400 word blogs.

The Water Pressures' team of web curators will assist the students with posting blog content, video production and social media postings on Waterpressures.org. Feature your local students videos on your station website to help promote the broadcast.
