August 2015
KASD Superintendent Dear KASD Families and Friends,

Kaukauna Area School District is ready for our staff, students, and families to return
to what we expect to be another very successful school year.  While all of us enjoy the change of pace and the renewal that summer break brings, we also know that schools are meant to be busy; the hallways, the stage, the athletic fields and courts filled with staff, students, parents and community members all there for one purpose: to support student achievement.  We are very excited to see the school year begin so that we can continue to support and inspire KASD students to achieve their greatest potential.

On behalf of Kaukauna Area School District, it is my privilege to welcome you back to the 2015 - 2016 school year.  And check out these Galloping Ghost Stories below for a glimpse into what we've been up to since you left!

Welcome to the New KASD Website!

One of our very exciting upgrades over the summer months was the launch of the new Kaukauna Area School District website! Take a look ... You'll find links to your school sites, calendars, news and information and more!

While you Were Away ...
Dedicated teachers from the Kaukauna Area School District had
a summer filled
with learning!

KASD served as host to a number of training sessions throughout the summer, and some teachers traveled throughout the state to participate in relevant trainings. We're very excited to have educators that believe so strongly
in bettering education. Here are just a few of the training sessions they took part in:

PCL/CIM Summer Institute

A number of teachers traveled to Madison for three days to learn about designing a curriculum
around and using resources for helping students use advanced literacy skills to acquire deeper knowledge.

Add+Vantage Math Recovery

Teachers learned about Math Recovery assessment, and
focused on the learning continuum, addressing areas of need and making instructional choices that are appropriate for students' current levels of understanding.

NDLC Writers' Workshop
This unique workshop, put on by KASD's New Directions Learning Community, led to collaboration from 91 attendees from 20 school districts state-wide. It was a great opportunity to showcase and share training and Writers' Workshop curriculum/methodology developed by Columbia University.

Facility Upgrade in Full Swing!

Over the summer, The Kaukauna Area School District's Board of Education approved a funding plan to complete all phases of the an extensive redesign and update of the District's athletic facilities.

Construction of the $4.4 million Fitness and Weight Training Facility and Auxiliary Gymnasium is already underway, and will now move forward to include a new stadium for football, soccer and track, revamped soccer and softball fields and an indoor training facility.  To read more about the facility upgrades, and long-range facility planning, click here

Spruced Up and Ready for a New Year!
A number of our KASD buildings and play areas had a little face lift this summer! Want to see what we've been up to? Check out our news page on the KASD website!

KHS Student Trip to Nicaragua Prompts Supply Drive
On June 15th, 10 students from Kaukauna High School (along with teacher AnnMarie Lahti) traveled to Esteli, Nicaragua to meet students from our partner school and spend a week learning about the culture and lives of those students and families in the area. Learn more about our amazing trip - and take a look at what it's leading to
