Insects: Sizes, Shapes and Colors Galore Feb. 27
11am-3pm
Shawn Dash

Entomologist Dr. Shawn Dash, assistant professor at Hampton University, will exhibit and interpret a wide variety of non-live insects and other invertebrates, along with a few live examples.

Also, at 12:30, 1:30 & 2:30pm he will present a 15 minute talk, "Insects: Sizes, Shapes and Colors Galore!" in the Changing Exhibit Gallery with BIG BUGS. He will explore the biodiversity of bugs, how ants are more than a household pest, and the role insects play in human health.

Included in museum admission.

This larger-than-life animatronic exhibit features super-sized bugs: the Madagascan Sunset Moth, the Bombardier Beetle, Dragonfly, Stag Beetle, Orb-Web Spider and Say's Firefly. There is also a caterpillar photo-op, a display of live bugs and weekend live animal programs (noon, 1 and 2pm), all designed to showcase a bug's life and why bugs are important.

Also explore the fascinating world of invertebrates - insects, arachnids, and their kin - through beautiful color photographic banners by famed Harvard scientist/photographer Piotr Naskrecki.
