Fact vs. Truth: Basing a Song on Real Life Events - Steve Seskin Duration: 0:10:56
Writing songs from our own experience is a great tool for songwriters. But...you don't have to stick to the facts. You can use your own experiences to inspire songs, or to color the emotion of songs that aren't necessarily about you. As Steve says, you should never let the facts get in the way of the truth.
Writing from a Title - Pat Pattison Duration: 0:33:52
Writing from a title tells you more about your song than you might think. Pat demonstrates how the three details found in a song's title - concept, a line in the chorus, and rhythmic identity - can make your songwriting easier and better. Once you've got a flexible, tense-neutral and point-of-view neutral title, you are on your way!
