Hello Songwriters!
Focus on one thing. Use all your senses. Write crap, it's the best fertilizer. Pat Pattison's instructions are direct, practical, and more often than not, funny. This week, we've found the three videos we think are the foundation of what he teaches. Maybe you've watched them before. They are definitely worth watching again.
Pat's workshops are accessible, engaging, and packed with songwriting wisdom. Things like, "90% of Dylan's songs are not his best 10%." Things we forget when we're tying ourselves knots trying to perfect our songs. It's helpful having Pat's proverbs and advice rattling around your head when sitting down to write. Helps keep you focused and loose. We think these videos have some of the best advice he has to offer.
Object Writing (26:27)
In Object Writing Pat describes a technique, that if used regularly, will strengthen your lyrics and use of sense bound imagery.
Prosody Part One: Introducing Prosody (22:45)
In Prosody Part One, he talks about the idea of making all the various parts of the song you are writing work together - in service of that song.
The Three Boxes: Part 1 (31:41)
In the Three Boxes, Pat describes a tool to help you keep the listeners interested so you never lose them when the next verse or chorus comes around.
Have fun!
Warmest wishes,
Diana
