Hello Songwriters!

"How are you able to gather an emotional feeling from simple description?" Andrea Stolpe asks in her video on Destination Writing. This week's featured videos will help you hone your lyric writing and answer that question.

Pat Pattison's classic exercise to access your sense memories and writing is Object Writing.  If you haven't heard Pat speak on it you're missing out.  Dive in and and give it a try.

Andrea Stolpe takes Object Writing a step further with Destination Writing.  While Object Writing asks you to focus on the sense memories and images evoked by a specific thing, an object, Destination Writing asks you to travel in your senses to a specific place, time, or person.

Writing Without Limits, Part 1: Destination Writing

The first two videos epitomize the advice "show, don't tell." But this advice frustrates many writers.  It isn't always the best choice.  You can have too much "showing."   In Andrea's final video, Toggling, she offers her insights on balancing showing and telling.  If you haven't watched this one, it could be a game changer.
