Hello Songwriters!

Today's video release is part one of a two-part masterclass in which Pat Pattison considers Chris Brandes' song "Sleep Soundly."  In this segment, Pat helps Chris move away from the "musical democracy" (where the song's phrasing implies that each line is equally important) of his song's initial phrasing, and shows Chris how to create spotlights in which the song's most meaningful words and moments can shine.  In the process he points out that each song has a musical and a lyrical roadmap.  If the two roadmaps don't match, then one of the roadmaps must change in order to help deepen the listeners' emotional response.
