Hello Songwriters!

There are so many elements that go into creating songs. These videos touch on a variety of tools and processes for you to consider, including how to develop a songwriting discipline, thinking about your songwriting goals, and a narration of the creative process leading to a specific song.

Writing Discipline (0:11:48)  ~ Quick Tip!

Steve Seskin and Bonnie Hayes

Are you available to the muse? Is TV an enemy that eats up all your time?  Listen as Steve and Bonnie consider a variety of techniques beyond setting a designated time and space, such as working in a space where no one can hear you (in case you feel a need to play a chord progression a hundred times over!), making a "you can't leave" rule, or just taking a drive in your car.

Steve Seskin

What's the best reason for writing songs? Fun, top-down ride-to-the-beach songs? Love songs? In-your-face political songs? Philosophy to change the world? For music, of course, the right answer is "All of the Above."

What is your deal as a song writer?

Steve Seskin

Starting with his co-writer's (Trent Jeffcoat) simple couplet (something about Norman Rockwell and Frank Sinatra) Steve tells the story of creating "That's Just Me." Vivid character details, using off-rhymes, cheating between the bars to get extra ideas in, singing made-up words to flush out the rhyme ... all the songwriter's process is on the table for consideration.

Enjoy!
Warm regards,
Diana
