Hello Songwriters-

Balancing focus and breadth, simplicity and complexity can be a part of the process of completing a song.

In Journey of a Song (Length: 1:12:48), Steve Seskin explores how he takes a song from inspiration to completion. Using several of his own songs, he walks us step by step through the dilemmas, choices, turnings, twistings, and surprises in writing a song.

Steve digs deeper into the concept of focus in -- Focus (Length: 01:46).   Songwriting is the process of taking a small idea and make it even smaller (not bigger!) Painting a broad landscape can work if you stick with your general theme.

Knowing when to pull the plug because you've gone too far is a point Steve examines in Wrong (Length: 07:40). "Wrong" is a 2-minute song because when the gag is done, it's done.

Changing a single line can affect many other lines throughout the entire song. In As A Friend (Length: 07:36), Steve changes the final line and discusses how it colors the entire piece.

Enjoy!

Warm regards,
Diana
