Greetings!

March is gearing up to be a busy month for all of our students and staff. Last week, we had an amazingly successful "Read Across America Day", honoring the birthday of beloved author Dr. Seuss. On March 15, we will be having "Bobcat Bingo", which allows for teachers to use the proceeds to purchase instructional materials for their students. Also, on March 21, there will be an orientation for parents/guardians of children who will enter kindergarten in September 2013. The orientation will be held in the library at 9:30 am. At this meeting, parents/guardians will receive packets containing all the necessary papers for enrolling their child. An overview of the Kindergarten program will be given along with general information about Belle View Elementary.

March also marks the start of our SOL testing for grades 3-6. Our 5th graders will be having the writing SOL on March 19 and 21. All of the other SOL tests will occur during the months of May and June (May 13th - June 7th). To assist with the testing schedule, we ask that you try to avoid taking your children out of school during these testing days.

Fun at the Winter Sock Hop!

Students, staff, family and friends kicked off their shoes for a night of dancing at the Winter Sock Hop. A big thank you to all who helped make the event a success.

Cultural Arts Assembly:
Chinese Acrobats

The PTA funds four cultural arts assemblies each year. We were very proud to have the Chinese Acrobats come visit us in February. These acrobats come from Beijing China and travel the United States touring schools for five months. They are trained at an early age of 6 or 7. They train for many years then travel and perform in their later teen years. Belle View students were delighted by their acrobatic moves, skill and precision. Thanks to all the parents and families that support our fundraisers. We couldn't have such fantastic assemblies without your support.

Belle View Bobcats
Track Program

The Belle View Bobcats Track Program is a chance for Belle View students to discover and develop their track and  field skills.

We urgently need a K-2 coordinator.
See below...

The track program is split into two groups: Kindergarten-2nd graders and 3rd-6th graders. Each age group has 3-4 practices on Mondays after school to be followed by a meet at West Potomac High School. The meets are optional but lots of fun. Your child will compete against 5 other area elementary schools on the high school track. Events include the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, relays and field events.

The fee is $25 per child payable to Belle View PTA. All Belle View students are welcome to participate and buddies will be provided for any of our special needs students. Registration forms have gone out in Wednesday folders. If you did not receive one, contact Melissa Lynch at meldanlynch@cox.net

TRACK SCHEDULE:

3rd-6th grade:
Practices 3/18, 4/1, 4/8 and 4/15 and Sunday 4/21.
Meet on April 22.

Kindergarten-2nd grade:
Practices 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, and Sunday 5/19.
Meet on May 20.

We urgently need a program coordinator for the K-2nd graders this year! This program cannot happen unless we have a parent volunteer to come forward and head this position for K-2. Duties include assisting at practices, entering runners into meet database, coordinating events at meet and printing certificates. Contact Melissa Lynch at meldanlynch@cox.net if you are interested.

NEW LOST & FOUND

There are two new stations for lost and found items. This new set up makes it much easier to find what you are looking for. Please be sure to check them for coats, lunch boxes, etc. They are still located outside the cafeteria.

The new lost and found stations were donated by a previous Belle View family. There are two of these outside the cafeteria. Thank you for contributing to our school.
