Hello Friends,

Spring is in the air and we are feeling Positive Momentum here at Law Students in Court. Our students are delving into their cases and gaining confidence each day. Together with our staff attorneys and community partners, they are "fighting the fight" to keep District residents in their homes and out of prison.

Such positive momentum deserves celebration! Please join us on April 28th at our reception and tribute to Michele Roberts and Marc Morial, two remarkable allies in justice reform. Celebration of Service is our biggest fundraiser of the year. May we count on your generous support? Bring a colleague and friend to Bidwell in NOMA. We can't wait to see you!

Firms Host Expungement Trainings
Mike Barfield and Lori Silberman partner with law firms to conduct pro bono trainings and offer work opportunities on expungement cases. They have advised 1500 people in the community on records clearing so far in our clinic's first year. They are pictured here at Sidley Austin with pro bono coordinator Rebecca Troth.

Case Victory
A low-income District couple and their three children avoided eviction and can expect to remain in a safer and healthier home thanks to the skillful court advocacy of LSIC law students Siobhan Namazi and Marcelo Perez and Supervising Attorney Gabriella Lewis-White.

Art and Understanding in the Classroom
LSIC faculty stress litigation and the skills necessary for effective lawyering. They also teach empathy. "Without it," notes Supervising Attorney Lisa Geis, "lawyers can fail to connect with their clients and the unique challenges facing their communities."
