A NEW PARADIGM
The Supreme Court ruling that "children are different" is changing how we treat youth in the juvenile justice system. Viewing kids as " short criminals" or ascribing to a "one size fits all" approach is no longer acceptable. Needless to say, reform of the juvenile justice system is long overdue.
A NEW CLINIC
We welcome Howard University School of Law to our Juvenile Justice Clinic '16 spring semester. Our goal is to prepare our students to become zealous juvenile defenders engaged in systemic reform.

Together, we can take on issues like the school-to-prison pipeline, conditions of confinement, post-disposition representation, and re-entry planning.

Through our community partnerships, we can provide holistic representation, empowering our young clients to re-engage in school, tap their community connections, and become their own best advocates. (Board challenge)
WE'RE REACHING OUT TO YOU: PLEASE HELP OTHERS GET A FAIR SHOT!
We want to ensure that kids receive the best defense in the family court system and do not show up in the adult criminal court later in life.

Simply put, LSIC students are the new face of excellence in juvenile justice.

"Our city's at-risk youth may be homeless, mentally ill, coping with substance abuse, or LGBTQ-identified and struggling with bullying or other forms of discrimination. All these kids have unique circumstances and need specially trained lawyers to advocate for their interests."   LISA GEISS, SUPERVISING ATTORNEY
