FOR THOUSANDS OF MEN AND WOMEN IN THE DISTRICT...
A criminal record is a substantial burden that thwarts their best efforts to thrive. Even a minor arrest record can stand in the way of securing a good job, affordable housing, and public assistance.
Such barriers pose broad implications beyond an individual's punishment.
Children of parents with criminal records also suffer, as do their communities stressed by the consequential costs of support. With justice reform efforts underway, NOW is the time to take action. (Board challenge)

WHERE LSIC STEPS IN...
Attorneys at the Expungement Clinic determine if low-income individuals are eligible to clear their records of arrests, charges, or convictions and, whenever possible, petition the court to help them to get on with their lives. The clinic is one of the only places in Washington, DC, where people can seek free attorney representation to seal their criminal records.

With your help, our students and attorneys are working with Jubilee Jobs, Strive DC, and a host of other re-entry service providers to educate residents about their rights and propel them toward a better life.  (Board challenge)
EACH DAY A CLIENT FEELS HOPE. HERE'S WHAT ONE HAD TO SAY:

"I called the clinic because I felt they could help me. So far, I met a young lady who made a point of coming to me. I don't know, it just made me feel so good. Like someone cared for me."   --LSIC expungement client
