WHEN IT COMES TO OUR TEACHING MODEL, OUR WHOLE IS GREATER THAN THE SUM OF OUR PARTS

As supervising attorneys at DC Law Students in Court clinic, Dan Clark and Cassie Snyder empower students to advocate on behalf of low-income residents who otherwise would be unrepresented in court. They review investigations, edit briefs, conduct mock juries - covering just about everything it takes to become a competent litigator. Through their mentorship, students learn how to speak to clients with dignity and face a court room with confidence.

This is the work that motivates our supervisors day in and day out.

Equally satisfying is knowing that the effort put into the student-supervisor relationship is time well spent.

"It's a sum greater than the parts," Dan says with a smile. "The combination of student and mentor drives better results for our clients than either of us could achieve independently." Cassie adds, "With this model we get more done, serving more clients in need."

In 2014, seven DCLSIC supervisors trained 90 students who, in turn, helped 3,000 people in 1,000 appearances. Our 2015 goals include building expertise in litigating hardship petitions and working to preserve rent controlled and other affordable housing units.

But to sustain this effort, we need your help in meeting our DC Bar Foundation Matching Grant. Your gift will move us toward our 2015 goals and help prepare our next generation of attorneys to seek justice and opportunity for the poor-now and for years to come.

Thank you so much for your support, and happy holidays!

Our best,

The Supervising Attorneys

Dan, Cassie, Lisa, Martha, Paul, Kathryn, and Gabby
