...A porch converted to a room with rodents, bedbugs, no heat, no insulation, a broken floor, and no smoke detector.

But Aaron's pleas for improved conditions were not answered. To get the attention of his landlord, Aaron stopped paying rent and soon found himself drowning in a world of legalese and court paperwork with nowhere to go.

Thanks to an able student attorney and a supportive supervisor by her side, Aaron received his justice due. This story, like so many others, expresses the many positive outcomes DCLSIC makes possible for our city's most disadvantaged residents.

"I felt that my landlord and his lawyer were being unfair to me. Shehrish helped me out. Everything I wanted to get out of court, she made it happen. She did it in 10 days and I've been at this for 6 or 7 months,"  said Aaron.

But there are thousands more low-income individuals and families in need. Won't you please help us meet our $5000 Matching Grant from the DC Bar Foundation? By donating one of your billable hours, you can help put our students to work.
We'd love to hear from you.
Please talk us up. Tell your friends, colleagues - even your lawyer - about all the good work we do. And please donate generously.

Thank you,

Moses Cook
