Greetings!

Harvest is in full swing and the Harvesters have been chugging along in fine motion. This is our busiest season, in the vineyard as well as in the tasting room.

As harvest continues, Gene Pierce of Knapp Winery and Vineyard Restaurant states, "In the vineyard, we are at the point in harvest season where we've picked the early varieties and are now picking the mid-season varieties such as Chardonnay and some Rieslings.  Our 2013 brix levels (sugar levels) are where they would be in an average growing season, we are right on target".

See you along the trail!!

Goose Watch Winery

Goose Watch Winery located on Rt. 89 along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail is just GW sign 11 miles South of Seneca Falls and 35 miles North of Ithaca. Our winery has something just a little bit different to offer.

Dave Peterson, owner of Goose Watch winery and Swedish Hill states, "When we started Goose Watch we wanted to make our product line different from our sister winery, Swedish Hill, as well from those of most other Finger Lakes wineries.  Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet Franc are the typical Finger Lakes varietals, so instead we have concentrated on several  varietals common in the rest of the world but not so common in the Finger Lakes, such as Pinot Grigio, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon or common varietals made in different styles, such as a dry Brut Rose made from Pinot Noir, a dry Riesling Gewurztraminer blend, etc.  Then there are the historic varieties, Diamond and Isabella, or the Classic Cream Sherry.  We also made the first Finger Lakes Lemberger.  Goose Watch is a unique property with beautiful grounds and a great view, it seems fitting that we would make the wines as distinctive as the property itself."

Come experience the Chestnut Festival on October 19th from Noon - 5pm. It's the biggest celebration of the fall season at Goose Watch Winery and we're inviting you! Here we celebrate the harvest of our chestnut groves in the most delicious and fun way!

With over 17 acres of nut groves at Goose Watch Winery, and most of those are chestnuts, we have plenty to go around! Sample a mouth-watering variety of chestnut foods while listening to LIVE music by the very talented Ev n' Bri Duo! Also treat yourself to the fresh flavors from Cayuga Lake Creamery who will be featuring a Chestnut Ice Cream made from our own chestnuts! And to really get you in the fall spirit be sure to sip on some of our mulled wine that will compliment the beautiful fall foliage of Cayuga Lake!

Admission to the Chestnut Festival is FREE to the public with food and beverage items available for purchase. We will also have bags of fresh chestnuts available for you to purchase in our gift shop along with chestnut roasting pans and other local ingredients such as maple syrup and honey!

So gather your friends and join us for the last and most delicious fall festival of the year at Goose Watch Winery!

Bellwether Hard Cider * Wine Cellars

Bellwether Hard Cider has expanded and is now also a winery. Our new label, Bellwether Wine Cellars, is spearheaded by the son-in-law of Cheryl and Bill Barton and  the husband of Caitlin, Kris Matthewson.

He is currently one of the winemakers at Atwater Estate Vineyards. Ted Marks, the owner of Atwater, has been incredibly encouraging and helpful in getting this project off the ground. We use the crusher/destemmer and press at Atwater (we don't have our own yet, but do plan to buy them down the line). The wine is then transferred to Bellwether where we do the rest of the the production.

Our business model focuses on producing wines from only two grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Riesling. These are two of Kris' favorite varieties and the two that he believes can grow best in the Finger Lakes. We source all of our grapes from some of the best vineyards in the Finger Lakes. The goal is to highlight the different terroir we have within the region. A Riesling from Seneca Lake can be very different from a Riesling from Keuka or Cayuga, and they hope to showcase that in their wines.

Our first two vintages currently available are our 2011 Pinot Noir and 2012 Rieslings. Our 2012 Pinot Noir will be released along with our 2013 Rieslings next Summer. Our first vintage (2011) we produced just one wine: A Pinot Noir from Sawmill Creek Vineyard on Seneca Lake. In 2012 we added a Riesling from Sawmill Creek, as well as two Rieslings from A&D Vineyards, which lies within the bluff of Keuka Lake.

For the 2013 vintage, we are adding two more growing partners to our project. In addition to A&D Vineyards and Sawmill Creek Vineyards, we are now working with Harlan Fulkerson at Lahoma Vineyards and John Tuller at Tuller Vineyards, both Seneca Lake growers. We are excited to work with these new growing partners and look forward to seeing what the vintage has to offer. We plan to add several more styles of wine this year, including a rose, a late harvest Riesling, and possibly even a white Pinot Noir, depending on how harvest progresses.

We have a website up at www.bellwetherwinecellars.com where you can find specifics on the wines.
