Greetings!

For a bit of trivia, Father's Day was first started in Spokane Washington on June 19, 1910 to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood.  The holiday had a rocky start in getting recognition and was finally made a national holiday in 1972 by President Richard Nixon.  Here on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, honor your father all weekend long with dinners, brunches and winery events to make him feel special on June 15th and 16th.

Don't forget on the 30th of each month from now till the rest of the year to visit the wineries and help us celebrate 30 years with special offers from each winery. In addition check out our 30th anniversary write up in the Travel Issue of the Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine. You have to love that picture of the wine owners at Taughannock Falls State Park.

See you along the trail and enjoy the beginning of what proves to be the best summer ever.

Montezuma Winery

"The Martin family and staff at Montezuma Winery love being a member of Mont. building the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail" states Bill Martin, one of the owners. "Not only does it give us the opportunity to be a leading part in the tight knit Finger Lakes wine community but it also gives us the benefit of all of its faithful visitors. We like to think that we bring a little diversity to the wine trail. Our selection of fruit wines, meads and classic grape wines create a very diverse wine portfolio for everyone to choose from while our BEE Vodka, Liqueurs, Brandy and Whiskey bring added excitement to the trail. Not to mention all of the trail goers love our gift shop stuffed to the brim with wine related goodies".

Cobblestone

Cobblestone Farm Winery & Vineyard, a seven year member of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail  sits on 144 acres, with 18 acres of vineyards, 5 ˝ acres of cherry trees, and 1850 feet of lake frontage.Cobblestone Farm Winery's beginnings were humble. It bottled its first wines in 2005.In the Spring of 2005, it served five (5) wines to guests under tents set up on the south edge of the cherry orchard.Guests sipped wine while dodging rain drops or dive bomber attacks from honey bees attempting to pollinate the cherry trees.  In June and July of that year, a few guests stopped to pick cherries from the orchard. Most cherries rotted on the trees. In the Fall, when the elements became too severe and the guests could not savor the wine on their frozen lips, wine tasting was moved into one room of the historic 1833 cobblestone house located on the property.

In 2006, Cobblestone Farm Winery moved into its new tasting room and readied itself to greet more guests without the hazards and the vagaries of Mother Nature.  In 2007, it became a member of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail.  Owner Bob Rozzano remarks that Trail membership brought with it the advantages of collective marketing and afforded Cobblestone Farm Winery access to the wealth of knowledge held by many friendly, cooperative and successful wineries.  He says that membership assisted Cobblestone Farm Winery in growing its business.

cobble jam Fast forward seven (7) years and you'll find Cobblestone Farm Winery serving 14 wines in its tasting room, serving over one hundred (100) complimentary samples of jellies, preserves, mustards, salsas, hot sauces, herb dips, fruit butters, dipping oils, salad dressings, and BBQ sauces, offering wine pairings with the food samples, and serving gourmet coffee. Its focus has shifted from a winery to a country store.  Guests are greeted in a warm and inviting atmosphere with personal attention from the staff, a cornucopia of smells and tastes, and fabulous views of the vineyard, cherry orchard and Cayuga Lake.  Guests may linger at the tasting room in rocking chairs on the front porch or picnic on the grounds.

Today, instead of bagging cherries for a few guests, Cobblestone Farm Cobblestone Cherry Winery hosts a cherry festival to thousands of people. This year the cherry picking season kicks off with the Ninth Annual Cherry Festival on June 22 and 23. Guests will enjoy sweet and sour cherry picking, wine, carnival games, an adoptable pet corner, music by THE WORKS on Saturday (6/22) and by AGONAL RHYTHM on Sunday (6/23), hay rides, a finger licking BBQ, pizza, scrumptious ice cream, artisan cheese, delicious fresh-baked goods, and arts & crafts vendors, offering such treasures as jewelry, soaps, candles, pottery, woodcrafts, fashion, and garden items.

cobble house As for the 1833 cobblestone house that first housed the tasting room?  Well, the owners of Cobblestone Farm Winery are finishing their renovation of the house and will open it as a bed and breakfast in 2013.  Guests can relax and rejuvenate in a home now registered on the national and state historic registries.  The home is adorned with country and antique décor and offers four (4) beautifully appointed bedrooms with a king or queen-sized bed, private bath, cable television, and air conditioning. A gourmet kitchen, wireless internet, complimentary wine tastings, discounts at the winery, and a gift basket of Cobblestone Farm Winery products await the guests. Cobblestone Farm Winery hopes to see you at the Farm!

Cobblestone Farm Winery is located at 5102 State Rte. 89, Romulus, NY 14541. 315-549-8797.
