This week at High Meadows Camp July 24, 2015
|
|
Today was this session's Hot Dog Cookout. Each Unit dressed up in their specific colors and showed their spirit. While the campers were eating hot dogs and snacks, they watched the Counselors from their respective units compete in Minute-to-Win-It Games against Counselors from other units, further adding to the pride and competitiveness of today's event.
Special thanks to Jake from Super Seniors and Jake from Waterfront (aka Jake squared) for cooking the hot dogs and to the CITs for putting breath and sweat into setting up the event and serving all the food!

Special Visitor Highlight
|
This past Monday, High Meadows had a very special visitor. Jordan Hill, a professional storyteller who travels around speaking to schools and camps happened to be in the area, and as soon as High Meadows heard about it, we jumped on the opportunity to have him visit. Each unit went as a group to listen to his stories, ranging from Old Russian tales to stories from Africa to Native American legends. His stories evoked feelings of excitement, passion, and energy from campers and staff alike. We are super thankful to Jordan for coming out. If you are interested in reading more about Jordan and his work, check out his website; https://jordanhillstoryteller.

Senior Quest Quips & Legend Lore
|
* Overnight and the River Trips were a great success! It was nice to have a day to ourselves off campus and to cool off on the Amicalola River. For the overnight, we enjoyed an exciting camper-counselor soccer match, an evening dip in the pool, an Archery tournament featuring our best archers, a tasty sandwich bar and getting to know your counselor games and dessert in the Barn Theater.
We concluded the evening with a great ceremony by the Native Lore classes.
* While Senior Legend was on their River Trip, Quest cooled off on the waterslide.
* Quest Lake Trip is Monday 7/27. Quest campers will load up on a bus and take a short drive to Victoria Beach on Lake Allatoona.
What to bring: Close-toed shoes with heel straps (old tennis shoes are the best for protecting feet in the water), towel, sunscreen, bug spray.
* Quest Evening is Tuesday 7/28. A wonderful way to spend an evening on our campus! Quest campers will play a whole group game, enjoy a dip in the pool, eat snacks and dinner, enjoy some down time with games in the Barn Theatre, maybe some old camp songs and finish the night with...what else...S'mores! Rain or shine, they plan on having a great time! Campers who do not plan on staying for the evening will go home the same way they always do at 4:00. Pick up is at 8:30 pm at the carpool location. There are no buses, so if your camper will be staying, you will need to pick them up at 8:30. Any evening medication must be turned into a counselor in the prescribed bottle and with instructions. Please fill out and turn in the Medication Release form found on our website http://www.highmeadowscamp.org/registration/forms. You may email it to camp@highmeadows.org or print and turn it in to a counselor.
What to bring: A mess kit (we encourage using a reusable plastic plate, bowl, cup, fork/spoon)
