This week at High Meadows Camp                                              July 2, 2015
Red, White & Blue and Cookout
Today was Red, White, and Blue Day, as well as our Hot Dog Cookout for the session. Campers and staff came decked in their best American flag duds and at lunch, the entire camp gathered for a hot dog cookout. While eating, the campers witnessed their counselors compete in a friendly inter-unit Minute to Win It competitions, which provided some thrills and laughs. Special thanks to Jake from Waterfront and Jeff from Seniors for cooking the hot dogs, and to the CITs for setting up and manning the food serving stations.

Person Highlight: Jennifer Lott

Jennifer is one of our Super Seniors Unit Leaders. She has been working at High Meadows Camp since she was a teenager. In 1982, she discovered High Meadows through an ad in the now obsolete Yellow Pages and the rest is history. Over the past 34 summers, she has worked in Juniors, Junior Out Post (an old unit which no longer exists), and has been a Super Seniors Unit Leader since the 1990s. She has seen many generations of campers grow up and become staff members (and even fellow Unit Leaders).

During the school year, she works at High Meadows School as the Extended Care Director and also teaches Preschool Nature classes. Remarkably, she has never missed a full day of work in all these years. However, that will change this summer, as she will be taking third session off for a well deserved rest.

Place Highlight
Ga-Ga Pit a favorite

Ga-Ga has quickly become one of the favorite games of Juniors, Super Seniors, Senior Quest and Senior Legend. The game originated in Israel and has become a staple of many summer camps and schools in North America.

The game is somewhat similar to dodge ball, but it is played in an octagonal "pit" and does not involve throwing of the ball. Instead, one has to be hit with the ball off of a rebound from the wall. Our Ga-Ga Pit was constructed just before the summer of 2011.

Senior Quest Quips & Legend Lore

Overnight and the river trips were a great success!

It was nice to have a day to ourselves off campus and to cool off on the Amicalola River. Although, it rained at the Overnight, we still had a great time. We played a little bit of camper vs. counselor soccer. When the rain came, we moved inside and played a few games of scooter basketball before eating. Once the rain cleared up, we took a dip in the pool at dusk, followed by games and desserts in the Barn Theater, capped off by the Lore Ceremony.

* Quest Lake Trip is Tuesday, 7/7. Quest campers will load up on a bus and take a short drive to Victoria Beach on Lake Allatoona.

What to bring: Close-toed shoes with heel straps (old tennis shoes are the best for protecting feet in the water), towel, sunscreen, bug spray.

* Quest Evening is Wednesday, 7/8. Quest campers will play a whole group game, enjoy a dip in the pool, eat snacks and dinner, enjoy some down time with games in the Barn Theatre, maybe some old camp songs and finish the night with, what else, s'mores! And for dinner, we will have a sandwich bar with kosher, vegetarian and PB&J options. Rain or shine, we plan on having a great time. What a wonderful way to spend an evening on our campus!

* Unit Choice for Quest next Wednesday, 7/8, is Skittles Day, come dressed in one of many solid colors. Unit Choice for Legend is still to be decided.
